    Also true :56:

Not when you have our quality of players though, if you look at when we’ve succeeded in the competition our keepers could have very possibly had the best performances in the group stages - Boruc and Forster were both gargantuan.

That helped bring us up a level.

I think this is a key point. In most games, we're going to spend a lot of time defending, which will inevitably lead to chances for the opposition. A top keeper is huge for us when that's taken into consideration.

It’s also what let O’Neill’s team down.

I don’t think Gordon has that in him, even though I don’t think he’s as bad as many make out on here.

Fantastic keepers are a hard find, and to be honest I think Forster had a better defence in front of him than Gordon. If we went and bought a good keeper from Germany or France and spent £5m I'm not sure we would improve, the defence would still cave although I think Ajer has improved and will do better in Europe than Simunovic. I would rather invest now in a CB as a high priority and get a new keeper in 2019. If Bain gets more game time we may see some stuff from him that could see him as 1st choice.

Good points and that’s also why I think a CB is a higher priority.

Can the debate of a better line of defence not work two ways as well though? Should there be a better calibre of defender, would it not just cover up Gordons flaws? Or if we had a better keeper who communicated and took control of his area - and his back line - then the defenders would be more organised and work better? For me a Keeper has to be the Captain of the backline in some respect. He has to organise them every much as Brown does the rest of the team.

I would actually say 2, in my opinion mate, and also look at cover for RB as well before you even thought about a new keeper.

Have i missed something about him in news today???.....genuinely.

I've always said he's no perfect but outfield players hiding and getting away with murder away from home in Europe are at LEAST as culpable!

ps-i just don't understand why he doesn't just hoof it up the * park and turn round to the manager and say right you tell me who the * made themselves available.....problem with that is they are better without the ball too!!

I want better than him but people are going way over the top in terms of putting him down. Almost to the stage where some are single handedly blaming him for our European skuddings.

I forgot he was the only one on the park and he also chooses the tactics. Yes he's been at fault for some, but our problems defensively in Europe go way beyond him, right back to Rodgers as well.

Forster had Wanyama protecting the back line and pulled off saves I would class as near impossible when called upon.

Boruc got us to the last 16 twice with Caldwell, McManus, Naylor, Wilson, Telfer etc in his back line.

Which just goes to ahow how * good Boruc was :56:

Just to be clear, I’m in no way blaming him, just think a higher caliber of keeper can take us up a level in Europe.

yeah Boruc was good but I do believe that Celtic were not at a big a gap to many of the bigger teams these days. So much has changed since 2010. I actually don't think that defence was as bad as you make out either.

Wasn't really meaning you anyway, Dev.

As you say above in regards to Boruc and the defence he had in front of him, a lot of it comes back to tactics. If BR sets us out to get in the faces of the big sides it is only natural that skuddings will happen and as per, the GK will take the brunt of it.

Strachan knew how to set the side up and get the best out of, lets be honest, incredibly limited players.

I agree with Minty in saying that RB and an experienced CB could go a long way to helping us, before dropping Gordon.

I think most of us, even his advocates, would agree with us.....still think higher priorities but that's my opinion. Still think Manual Neuer could have being in goal and we've have still been scudded mate!!

He did but he also let a load of chances slip through, which would always happen with that defence and when a lot of chances slipped through, you could rely on Boruc being incredible to stop it. It bred a lot of confidence infront of him.

I think it’s important to build a base from the back, that starts with the keeper for me. Gordon’s ok, occasionally exceptional, occasionally a bit * but mostly average for me. I’d go all out for a really good keeper before anything else.

That might just be a phobia left over from MON’s days. We had everything but a keeper, ane that shafted us.

So do a lot of fans which i’ve always found slightly harsh but if we had Boruc between the sticks that day, I think we’d have won...

    All hypothetical though innit
