No, taking the captaincy off McManus would literally break his heart...for all the fuss it would cause, I don't really see any better candidates....

My thoughts exactly Lubo, think he's been instrumental for us pretty much since the minute he joined us, and has prob been one of if not THE main man in getting us into the position we're in now. Heart of a lion and has got captain written all over him.

Completely agree. I don't think any of our other players would be that much better than Mick. He certainly has the passion, he just needs some more experience I think, this season has been a big learning curve for him and he just needs to follow it through to next. I'm confident that we'll see an improvement.

No, it would do more harm than good to the morale in the dressing room

Wouldn't change it although firmly believe we need some more captain material (strong characters) in the team - Nakas comments today about Lennons return backs this up.

To the people who say it would do more harm than good, do you not entertain the idea that the added pressure has brought McManus to a halt in his development, therefore he would be happy to be relieved of his duties as captain if it was discussed in the right way? He could see this season as a great learning experience that could stand him in good stead for the future and without the added pressure his game could continue to develop and become the player we all know he could be.

I was going to say no, but your post here has made me think. It's the club that matters, not the individual. I think Mick has suffered with the responsibility and, as you say, if handled the right way could actually do him good.

I don't know who I'd give it to yet though. Can I answer that in the summer ?

I suppose you could Martin, but what will change between now and then? The only thing that could happen is we could bring in a captain-like player, but imo it would be bad for the morale of the settled players if a new guy came in and got given the arm band.

It's not ideal but it would depend on the quality of the new candidate. If he was good enough to merit it and instantly command the respect from the other players then, if it too was handled correctly, it could work.

I'm maybe being a bit optimistic about the quality of our signings in the summer though.

Don't know to be honest, I definitly think it's affected Mick's perfomances this season but there's not really any outstanding candidates at the moment.

If only real life was as simple as football manager, I gave Boruc the captaincy because Mick wasn't a regular for me and the players were thrilled, don't think it'd be the same if it happened in real life though.

Just out of curiosity, what are you holding out for? You obviously must have ideas about who could do the job, what exactly are you waiting for?
