Despite huge changes to the format in 04/05? You're only fooling yourself there

They claimed getting to the last 16 was a better achievement than Seville when they first did it but obvious their tune will be different now.

In all honesty unless they win it - and please * don't let it happen - I think competing in the last 16 trying to reach the last 8 of the Champions League is what we should be aiming for.

There's a reason the team that finishes 3rd in the group stages go into the Uefa Cup, it's because they're not good enough to be with the 16 elite of Europe. Anyway hopefully that 120 mins will cost them against Hibs, and C'mon Zenit!!!

Hand on my heart i swear to * i would not.

I also don't buy into the stuff some others will say demeaning their achievement, they're in the UEFA cup final same as we were and it has left me absolutely deflated.

I suppose football is opinion at the end of the day but we do not play dire football compared to the * they serve up as 'football.

To say we lay down to a team with the players Barca have is laughable they're simply on a different level from us.

I've been harping on about how the Euro Cup format changes have made the standard of the competition weaker to make the UCL stronger, (thank G14), since last year. I havent been waiting for Rangers to get to the final to say this.

Weaker/stronger/easier run/otherwise they've equalled our achievement. The record books won't inform the public of format changes or of the fact the teams competing were * it'll just say rangers finalists or * forbid * champions :54:

Hammer i watch a lot of spanish football and thats bollocks.

Barca were * before and after they played us.

If we went for them we'd have had a chance, we admired them.

At least against Milan we tried, and all credit to GS for that, but he took us back the way.

The Daily Record, all the hun media & the british media will hype this up (i.e. 3 british clubs in european finals), I KNOW, thats the worst thing. Journalist's investing in their own interest.

We played great clubs and won, they played 2nd rate ones and scraped through

Nup don't agree whatsoever, they played Man United who are in my opinion the best team in the world right now off the park twice but only lacked penetration. Penetration provided by a fully fit Messi at Parkhead and an Henry left to kick his heels against United.

Don't delude yourself, i watch football every single spare minute i have, they are simply better.

I admire your glass half full attitude honestly i do but let's not try and sugar coat the fact they've equalled our achievement, they've gone and done it.

The media will give them deserved praise tbh because even though they serve up utter utter dross and call it football, what he's done is take a football club going backwards and took it to a European final and it's hard to admit but it's an historic achievement same as when we done it.

In relative terms maybe but in European football terms can't agree. Our main goal threat comes from a wee guy signed from Motherwell, there's from a striking quadrant worth over £100 million. They were never there for the taking they passed us off the park the same way they did to United but just couldn't find the killer ball.

Yea its the final of the same competition and yes they got there like us but they played against a lesser standard of opposition compared to what you would have gotten between 98-04 when the competition was at its strongest, G14 has made sure that all the strong clubs play in the UCL so TV revenue is maximised. Thats is an undoubtable fact.

Lets not be petty though guys. I'd rather bestruggling to beat a Rangers team in the league that were also doing ok in Europe rather than one that was dire.

I don't know whether it is Scottish football getting stronger or the rest getting weaker as the continued exodus to the EPL weakens the other big leagues but if you look back over the last few seasons the Old Firm have done much better in Europe.

Now we got through in the CL and they didn't, but it is always nice to get the chance of winning somehting in a final, but as far as i'm concerned to say as Celtic fans that you'd rather win the Uefa cup is saying you'd rather settle for being patted on the back for being a decent mediocre team. If the shirt doesn't shrink to fit the player then our ambitions should not shrink either.

Some of the teams rangers beat were not of the highest calibre compared to the Seville run but they can only beat the teams in front of them. More strange is the stat that they only had to win 2 games i think to get to the final?

Beating averages teams in the Uefa cup does not come close to the feeeling of the rush of playing Man Utd when Naka scored, beating the holders or else taking Milan to extra time over two legs the year they won the competition.

Saying you'd rather be in the Uefa cup is like Hearts fans saying they'd rather be in the 1st division because they would have a good chance of winning it. Old Firm fans are spoilt, we are used to winning things. But it is embarrassing that we are so spoilt that we can't take getting knocked out of Europe by teams that spend 100s of millions on players and we'd rather play against easier teams. If this was the case then Celtic shouldn't have bothered playing in Europe in the late 80s til mid 90s.

Would rather be in the last 16 of the champions league every season, when that draw gets made each year, some of the most powerful men in european football are there, and 2 years in a row now Celtic have been at that top table.

You make friends, get respect, now fair play to the huns for getting to the uefa cup final, but i think as a football club we have more respect now through out europe dining at europe's top table 2 year in a row, than we did getting to seville. not taking anything away from getting to seville, but the champions league is the only place to be come december, when the draw is made in nyon.

Come next Decembr match day 6 if we have a chance again of going to the last 16 again, any celtic fan who says they want the uefa cup are talking bull *.
