    Right bored oot ma nut at work and was thinking.

    See if Dermot Desmond funded a brand new team in the same way PSG as done. Would we be able to smash our glass ceiling permanently.

    Say the Cheque book was well and truly out and we signed the world's elite. Would that then attract the level of TV revenue and sponsorship as down south and thus sustain us on the same level as Europes elite in years to come?

    DD clearly has the cash and we all know how easy getting round the financial fair play regulations are.

    Not saying it's something that would ever happen but would it work?

    If we were funded the same as Qatari FC I see a slight jump in interest. However unless Scottish Football came along for the ride then we would just be a richer team in a * league.

    We would still struggle to entice the elite players here, we would have better but I couldn't see Messi coming here if we were still in the SPFL.

    In all seriousness mate.. we are a Scottish Club so no matter how much cash we have to throw at the club. We will be limited to the parameters that playing in Scotland holds..

    DD is a business man first and foremost and apparently all profit is ploughed back into the club. But he won't cough up millions and millions to do what we're doing anyway domestically with the odd chance of last 8 CL or a EL run..

    We are progressing just fine.

    The only way we're ever going go compete at European level is by joining the English setup or some kind of breakaway European league.

    None of these are realistic, so we'll just need to keep plugging away and hope to miraculously sign a team of Wanyamas, Van Dijks, Dembeles etc all at the one time and hold on to them for a few seasons. Which is probably more unlikely than leaving the Scottish setup.

    We'll never be at a level to get beyond the last 8 of the CL while arab money is dominating football.

    Although it is entirely hypothetical, Desmond is 'only' worth 2bn.

    In modern football terms thats * all. * knows how much of that is tied into assets etc as well.

    A better strategy, would be to develop an elite group of super youths... that all come through at the same time.

    And if they were all Celtic fans, you might stand a chance of convincing them not to jump ship for bigger wages down south etc...

    Instead of focusing on high level skill development, we could put more focus on athleticism... and build a team that could outrun and outwork the most skilled teams in europe! (obviously you would need some skill as well though)

    I would rather we developed great youths, rather than winning through financial doping!

    Short term - get a sugar daddy in who will fund basically everything - win lots of stuff (domestically) - might succeed in Europe - if he/they get bored we're in the * face uncertainty.

    Long term - have someone who insists the Club is run sustainably and is therefore able to cope when/if the * hits the fan -(probably) win lots of stuff domestically - Europe will be a struggle - if he/they get bored we have a business model that will allow the Club to continue building.

    I know what model I want us following.

    We’re at a fantastic level just now.

    We dominate domestically so we get to see the club win matches and trophies regularly.

    We face exciting challenges in qualifiers and against at least one club in the group stage (BMG, Anderlecht).

    We test ourselves against the best with some success (Man City, Bayern Munich).

    We develop local talent (Armstrong, McGregor, Tierney etc.).

    And now hopefully we will see the club compete toe-to-toe in the latter stages of the Europa League.

    I really don’t see the need for massive investment so we can become the huns in the 90s or a * club like PSG. Nor do I see the need for us to give up competing in Europe to join * English leagues and play 38 games a season, celebrating a draw because it keeps you in the money league.

    I love our position right now and I welcome the long term challenge.
