At first i thought it was his bottle in big games but i'm starting to think this too....which in a way would be actually cutting him some slack!

Maybe I am a bit biased having missed the opening of the game, and therefore his apparent sitter, but I thought he had a decent game. A couple of misplaced passes before being subbed but overall was solid. His link up with the other midfielders in particular was very good and he chased down the Bayern players very effectively.

Thought he won the ball back loads tonight, was braver than he has been, carried it well at time's and his passing wasn't that bad. A lot of it kept simple..

I must've watched it different to most..

    * sake, I was watching the same game as you. Tonnes of energy, won the ball back, pressed well and offered runs beyond their midfield. Almost scored, too.

    Hard to disagree.

He always looks quite rushed when he's on the ball. Brown and McGregor on the other hand have all the composure in the world.

He wasn't up for it at the start but he got himself back into it and had a very good game.

If I was Forrest or Tierney I'd be fuming at him for that miss though, as they'd worked so hard to create that chance and he fluffed at it.

McGregor is much better in ‘tight situations’ and has a more natural feel for the ball. McGregor also is much less of an athlete than Armstrong and is basically a different player, so I’m not sure why we’re comparing them. The Brown-Armstrong combo behind McGregor worked really well.

I said it was a mixed performance from him, outstanding and sloppy at the same time.

Very, very, simple. They’re in direct competition for a starting spot.

So what matters most in the Champions League? Stamina and distance covered versus technique and ability. That’s ultimately what it boils down to because they have a very similar goal threat from midfield.

Why do you think McGregor and Armstrong are in direct competition for a place? Would you not have Armstrong and Brown together with McGregor ahead?

Woeful miss, embarrassing. But I thought as the half went on he recovered. Honestly thought he had a solid game over the course. Some nice play.

They can both play in central midfield or as a 10. They’re in greater direct competition than any other 2 central midfielders you could pick from the squad.

Woeful miss but went on to play very well. Good to have his power and drive from what was a well balanced midfield tonight. Very unlucky not to set up Dembele in the first half. Would have been a great goal.
