The disappointing thing about Ntcham is that we were all expecting him to get on the ball and be our most comfertable player in possession. The reality was very different unfortunately.

    Only partly agree.
PSG always had 2 players to play a normally, easy pass to.
We typically had either nobody to pass to or a single difficult pass.
PSG close the space much better than we do.

Ntcham tried to move the ball forward as much as possible, admittedly failing a lot of the time.
Our other midfielders such as Broon and Armstrong were lacking confidence and always looked to pass back or sideways.
Ntcham will be the long term replacement for our captain.

The other reason of course is that their players are much better than ours and they played an amazing good game.
Its the single best performance I have ever seen at Celtic Park from an away team.

A humbling experience all round , and sad that we fell to our worst ever home defeat in Europe . We have to bounce back on the domestic front , and try to learn a few lessons from last night . We can play better than we showed against PSG , and on a brighter note we have some of our better players to come back into the team . Chins up until our next match though !

The line up wasn't the problem, the ideology was. We went out there and tried to play PSG at their own game. Full backs bombing on, midfield bombing on, wingers too far up the park - We simply do not have the players to attempt that vs PSG.

That is not how modern day Celtic scalp the big teams.

Overcommitting is a huge part of that horror show, PSG weren't even that good man, we gifted them goals with naive play.

    Look at my quote again:

After being tanned by Barca, humiliated at home by PSG, brushed aside by BMG at home, convincingly beaten away at Beer-Sheva, conceding 4 away at Astana - Am I really being that unreasonable?

Far too easy to score against, far too inconsistent (in Europe).

It's a catch 22 though, if we play the way we do we'll find it easier to play against team similar to ourselves because we will score a lot more and be able to play with more confidence but if we play anti-football then we will remain uncomfortable and nervous in Europe.

I would rather play how we do now, take pumpings against bigger teams so at least when we play against "normal" teams we have a better chance of winning.

Look at Ajax last season, got to the EL final with an XI no better than ours. That came from them playing good confident football that allowed them to beat many teams their own level.

I we were to play teams like Ajax, Olympiakos, Basel, Fenerbahce etc now I would be confident of 50/50ish games where we could win home and away, lose home and away win and draw, we might win a game 3 or 4 nil against one of them etc because we know we are a good team capable.

When you think of Strachan's team against even teams like those you would think we'll be lucky to score a single goal never mind win a game. Just because we didn't really have any confidence to attack teams like them, we played it cagey and tried to sneak results.

We are, but I don't think we have the players at present to change that. Even with Sviatchenko and Boyata back, I still see us continuing to leak a lot of goals in Europe. I can understand Rodgers continuing to play as we do until we have the players to do otherwise. Really should have invested heavily in the defence in the summer as most fans could see.

No you've clarified what you meant, sorry, I didn't fully understand what you meant. My error, I blame the booze!

No, you're not being unreasonable, I think not spending some of our windfall from last season buying an experienced, high quality defender is naive and downright stupid. Obviously, we've been unlucky with injuries but we're still short back there. In the SPL, our makeshift back line will do the job but in Europe - We're short.

We overcommitted men forward and top teams like PSG will punish you. In terms of pressing, we actually did that okay, it was controlled pressing, but not once, did the PSG players at the back play a loose pass or panick. Sometimes, even a moments hesitation from the opposition defender, which he panics and boots 60 yard out of play for a throw gets the crowd going, PSG didn't do that once. The crowd were amazing last night but had little to work with, as the PSG players just didn't crumble once under pressure.

The principal of your point is right though, we can be easy to play against. Last night, we were crying out for a leader at the back to calm us down and lead by example, we didn't have that and we folded like a pack of cards.

I didn't really care about the record being broken by Barca last year, and I don't particularly care about it being broken last night.

All I care about is what we are going to take from these games.

Last year after being pummelled by Barca, we went out and finished off the group having played in one of the most entertaining European games in years at CP against Man City - where THEY had to come back 3 times to earn a draw (not the other way around), and then us taking a point off of them at home.

The remaining games will be very interesting, and we are FAR from being in a position where we he nothing to play for ffs...

He's closer to me than all of you....I better not get a horses head in my pillow tonight. I've just changed my sheets :31:

I must say the atmosphere last night was incredible, even 5-0 down the noise was electric.

Ye i see your point,i guess the reality is we should try make the most out of competing in CL groups and get ourselves into Europa which is more our level.
Its sad really when a club like ours struggles when we are in the CL but i guess for the foreseeable future that,s the way its going to be.

I think the way Brendan sets us up in Europe is part of the problem, hate to criticise him but I have to here. Against these kind of teams we have to play 10 men behind the ball and hit them on the counter to get any kind of decent result, if we don't start doing that now I fear we'll see more results like last night and Barca away last year. Being a bit more offensively minded is ok against teams in Europe who are closer to our level like Anderlecht but the top teams will rip us to shreds if we try to go toe to toe with them.

Also think we need to have a big target man type striker for these kind of games to hold up the ball and give us an extra set piece threat as that's pretty much our only chance of scoring against these teams, unfortunate that Dembele was out.Griff did ok but there's only so much he can do in the air given his size.

One thing I noticed yesterday which really frustrated me was how there was no support for our players when they were in PSG's half. I noticed several times when Rogic, Roberts and Sinclair were on the ball there'd be absolutely no support which allowed PSG to have about 3/4 players on them. Couldn't get my head round that at all.

It's important we learn from this and don't let it happen again. PSG are quality but results like that just aren't acceptable. We are much better than last night showed so here's to the next game :ynwacelti.
