Klaasen and Riedewald are the only 2 absentees from that team and they spent 10 million on Wober and Orejuela.

They also lost Kenny Tete for 5m to Lyon and Sanchez to Spurs for 40m

Tete didn't play against United and Sanchez only signed for Spurs on Thursday.

Doesnt matter when he signed. Sanchez didnt play against Rosenborg. Therefore they were weaker.

Tete started for Ajax in the Europa League Semi final first leg and came on in the 2nd leg. As well as starting 2 and coming on twice in the previous 2 rounds. Tete was an important player for Ajax in their Europa League campaign.

Having no Boyata, Dembele or Sviatchenko made us weaker but you failed to take that into account for the team you support and we still beat the opposition. Hmmm.

Sanchez was an Ajax player when they played Rosenberg whether he played or not.

But Ajax were considerably weaker without Klassen, Sanchez, Riedelweld and Tete for the qualifiers.

Hats off to Rosenborg though, Ajax still have all their attacking players that reached the final last season minus Klassen.

But Rosenorbg obviously exploited Ajax's weak defence. Something they also did against us at parkhead, but Bendter missed three sitters that night. Just surprised they didnt go more attacking against us in Norway. Must have been afraid of us on the counter - whereas ajax build the play up more slowly and play tikky takka

I tend to read it more as Ajax getting papped out because it's * murder getting a decent team halfway through their season when you haven't started yours yet... and yet Rodgers got us through it. Food for thought, no?

Regarding the bit in bold, BR has said we defended by keeping the ball. BR got his tactics spot on and we went through where last years finalists failed.

You're missing his point: if he was available and Ajax chose not to play him, then they can't have thought his absence would make them weaker.

They also lost their manager, to be fair.

True it does make a difference. But also losing 3 of your top 5 defenders (Sanchez, Riedelweld and Tete) must also make you much weaker in defence.

Yeh, absolutely we did very well and Ajax tanked. I'm saying that their defeat was a mixture of losing their best defensive players and their midfield playmaker as well as Rosenborg being a decent side.

But it's really unfair to sell our achievement this year short by saying Ajax have been weakened when they've been weakened because they follow a very similar model to us: buy, develop, sell.

They did but regardless, all I'm really getting at is our win over Rosenberg maybe didn't get the credit it deserves as they are a solid European side who will beat good teams. Such as Ajax.

The specifics are neither here nor there, they've spent 10 million on 2 players. Rosenberg have spent about that in the last 10 years!

I don't mean to sell anyones achievement short.

I think we did brilliant, I think Rosenborg did brilliant.

But I also think (1) our team needs strengthend with a Centre back, a Right sided Winger and a 3rd striker on loan for cover. (2) Ajax who played Rosenborg was not the same team of the same strength that reached the Europa league final. The lost 4 key players and their manager.

Reckon we need to look at scouting UEFA Youth League players more.

Yeah I agree. It was an impressive win for Rosenborg. They're clearly a decent team.

We are not as far ahead as the Huns as I'd like us to be and we should be in a position that means they will never be able to get close again and if we go in to the group stage as is I think we're going to get destroyed. I've got a feeling that we won't see Dembele playing again this year. Hamstrings are really tricky so we badly need a striker.

I think you're clutching at straws, mate. Paul says they were only missing two and had spent 10 million on replacements. They might not have been quite as strong, but this is still a * good team we are talking about and the fact that they fell to Rosenberg shows just how well we did. And look: we were missing Dembele, Boyata, Sviatchenko and even (for 1 match) Griffiths from our treble-winning team!!!!! I think we were just as weakened as Ajax if not more.

It's obvious we're trying to get Roberts as that RW you mention and equally obvious that everyone at Celtic would rather have had him in time for the qualifiers, berating the board because that was't possible is also unfair. We do need a CB; but come on to *, mate: how unlucky is it to have our 3 first choice CB's injured for these games? We don't have the budget that allows us to have a squad big enough to cover that. Everyone agreed that the squad needed to be trimmed.

A striker? I have my doubts unless you mean a young project to develop for when Dembele leaves. Other than that, I know exactly the calibre of striker that would come here to be 3rd choice and it's not much better than Cifti TBH.

The Huns will go bust quicker than they will get close to us.
