Thing is our comander Lawwell says we don't budget on the champions league though.

If that's the case we should have had an extra boost from last season's champions league.

We have cut the wages budget yet again and got rid of players and it wouldn't surprise me if we haven't spent anything, What I mean by that is players out goings has covered or transfers coming in.

We have got another year of champions league football and that's now around 60 million at least, and I bet we do the same next season by leaving it last min yet again, I hope the * not.

What's getting to me is that the board have done this in the past and we have let others catch us.

I'm not saying for one second we will lose the league this season but if we * Rodgers about in the transfer market and don't back him then the first half decent team that comes in for him he will be off.

That's my main worry if that happens.

I agree mate. I thought appointing Rodgers would mean there would be no * about and we would get the players that Rodgers wanted in quickly. I would be devastated if we lost Brendan due to the board not doing their job in backing the manager.

We have to back Rodgers, we are extremely lucky to have a manager of his calibre. If he went we would not be able to attract another manager of his standard to the club. We were lucky that he was a lifelong supporter and wanted to come here. The board have no excuses, Brendan has brought champions league for the 2 years he has been here. If he does not get backed then he may leave because he doesn't feel he can take the team any further. With the backing of the board there is no limit to where Brendan can take us.

It all comes to the board ambitions if we are just there to make up the numbers in the tournament then Roberts could be our only signing but if we want to get the 3rd place or push for second we need three new signings by Thursday.

I really think on Thursday we will see
    Paddy Roberts
    Stephen Caulker
    Danny Ings
    All in
And I would be really really pleased with that

Without Roberts and a defender we will be a punchbag at the group stages. They better act.

I thought it was confirmed Caulker would be staying and fighting for a place with his current club.

The deadline day doesn't sneak up on anyone. Not brining in players in a position of need is not good enough.

I would love to know what they mean by tried but failed? Get it every season so all the more reason to be better prepared the next window

This is the 2nd season in a row now that we have went into the qualifiers for the Champions League unprepared.

Last season it was Eoghan O'Connell in all 4 astana and beer sheva games - this season Ajer against Rosenborg and Astana and Nir Bitton.

All four important qualifier games with 1 striker fit and sometimes with no striker.

If the Champions League group stages are so important to the club and the board, then why do they not have a squad ready for the qualifiers?

Obviously we can't expect to attract the quality we want until we know we have group stages gauranteed, but what I mean is atleast bring in some squad players to give depth.

A 3rd striker on loan incase we are down to 1 striker. A centre back to assist the injury prone trio of Boyata, Simunovic and Sviatchenko.

Hayes, despite being very underwhelming so far, actually made sense to me as a transfer. Couldnt sign paddy prior to group stages, so bring in back up to forrest and sinclair. Then paddy comes in we have Hayes as 4th winger.

I suppose considering we have qualified for the last two seasons the board and some fans can turn around and say "look, we were prepared enough so stop moaning". But I still think we need to be doing our business as early in the window as possible. Having said all that, well done to the lads for qualifying once again - it was brilliant considering all the pressure.

We've went into the Champions League qualifiers that unprepared we've got through to the Champions League twice :56:

Rosenberg have since proved that they are a good team and Astana's record at home speaks for itself against quality opposition

You can't just make up in your head we're unprepared and then use the thing that proves it as a stick to bash the Club. Unfortunately.

It's a results driven business and Rodgers is providing them. Big time.

It is true that we've gotten through on both occasions - so therefore I am being harsh.

But come on? You don't think the squad has been a bit unprepared?

Perhaps the biggest games of our season and we play Eoghan O'Connell, Kristoff Ajer and Bitton in Centre defence? I wonder if other big clubs go into the play offs playing youth development players.

And no fit striker at home in the play offs? And then no striker at all on the bench for the other 3 games?

I do think we could have been more prepared for injuries etc. But, yes, it's correct to say that Rodgers and the players were brilliant.

Very few names other than Roberts being banded about.

Which, going by the last few windows, suggests we can expect 2 more signings by the end of the window :56:

So your argument has no weight. We got through all qualifiers so Rodgers has been vindicated.

    Maybe.

However, we saw what happened against Barcelona last year in the opening game 7-0 with a new defensive partnership that had not played any of those qualifiers together. And it took Brendan until the almost the 4th game to settle the team down and stop conceding 7/3/2 goals.

I'd much prefer Brendan to have a settled back four that play the qualifiers and then go into the first game against Barca/PSG with confidence that they've played with each other before.

We were found out last season and the same may happen this year against PSG in defence. Who ever starts in defence whether it's Simunovic/Sviatchencho or Simunovic and a new Cb will not have played together yet this season.

I don't think thats being well prepared. And it starts not when the group starts but in pre-season and the qualifiers.

The striker position is a bit different. But I'd prefer to have a striker on the bench at all times during matches to be available to come on for the striker who is playing
