Not sure if Flanagan is the answer but I like your thinking in getting a FB who can play both sides. I'd be really worried if Tierney or Lustig, or heaven forbid both of them, got a long term injury.
We're really short on quality and experience for FB cover.

We were linked every season to that LB that played for Fernabache who seemed decent, not to sure if he's still there or not

Left-sided CB for me who can go into LB.....there's sirens going off here about our depth in there. Also, looked at Coetzee's height the other night and under 6 is a concern.

RW and a GK in my opinion. Roberts 7 hopefully. Gordon is decent but still worries me. To get results vs the likes of PSG and Bayern, you need a keeper that can raise their game on big occasions like Forster always did in big games. Im not saying that its easy to find, but im afraid that Gordon wont pop up with a crazy performance..

We've no excuses for not bringing in a couple of quality players. We've supposedly been scouting them for a while and surely we'd have started talks with certain players. No excuse for the board to penny pinch again with signings like the South African lad. Not saying he won't be any good but we need proven in the CL. We're always told CL is what players want and players will come if we qualify. No point in qualifying to stockpile cash.

Brendan did say we would wait to nearer the end of the window to get some quality in from down south. I remember thinking he is targeting the wrong market but when you see what he has done its excellent.

Without a doubt what he has done is excellent mate. Remembered thinking the same myself also we shouldn't be waiting to the end of the window because that will mean (other than paddy) more pointless loan deals

Yeah am not too keen on loans deals tbh.

I am think already ahead to next summer (i know its shocking) but am thinking to myself you could lose a right good few players next summer due to contracts running down and CL performances etc! you dont want too much upheavel in your squad thats for sure!

Gordon is hardly going to be replaced when he signed a new bumper deal in January so you can forget that. I have a feeling Jon Flanagan could well be a target. Well out of the picture at Liverpool but was fantastic for Rodgers. Play left or right.

True mate. If what BR says is true we've identified players for Europe this season in January last season. So that's why it bugs me that we leave it this late all the time. We're realistic, we're not expecting world record fees to be spent, but if you want higher quality then we have to pay higher prices. Finding the odd gem is all well and good but is not a given all the time

Just out of interest, does anyone think we're gonna break our record transfer fee any time soon?

Currently stands at 6m I think.

The last most expensive player we bought was Scott Brown for 4.5m 10 years ago. Although the rumour is Nctham may have cost that much again - and is worth every penny.

I don't think that we'll break our record transfer fee this year - but surely with the current transfer market inflation and champo league money that day will come soon.

Also, when you look at what you get for 4.5m (10 years out of Broony and Nctham) we should really do it more often than every 5 years as it really adds that extra real quality.

I would be so disappointed if we didn't pick up a good CB and another striker (preferably on loan). Roberts I would take but put little value on bringing him in again for another year on loan and potentially taking a starting spot away from someone like Forrest who is here for the long haul and benefits the club long term.

I think if we don't bring in another quality CB and fairly decent backup striker that this transfer window has been a failure with the exception of Ntcham.

Same, will feel pretty disappointed if it is just Roberts and Coetzee left that are coming in. Was a joke going through those qualifiers so under prepared.

The thing is though, once paddy signs, we've so far not lost any of our main players from last season which is a major positive.

We were a bit unlucky with injuries going into the CL qualifiers but coped with that superbly well.

I honestly think if it wasn't for BR in charge we could not have done it. The Rosenborg result against Ajax (Europa finalits last year) highlights that too.

Still pinch masel when I see him as our manager.

If the paddy deal is done I really think we need to improve the defence otherwise bayern and psg are more than likely going to hammer us. Tierney is fine and I think simunovic is ok but at rb gamboa isn't really trusted Ralston isn't ready yet and lustig is on the decline. Neymar/draxler/di Maria from psg coman/ribery/robben from bayern up against lustig I don't feel confident and id also like an experienced cb to play with simunovic. So 2 signings I think we need rb and cb

Hasan Ali Kaldirim is his name. Still plays for Fernerbache, who got knocked out of the Europa League Qualifier. 29 games in European competitions so far, cheeky 2 million bid would do it

I can imagine a loan striker with an option to extend till the end of season depending on our European adventure. Hopefully that does mean till end of season.

I'm not quite advocating we go & blow millions but I though this summer we might see around 4 players signed & prices to be in the 2-5 million range. But I'm not disappointed at how its worked out.

Taking the alleged max the press says we've paid, I think 7.5 mill total could be the figure. Probably about half of what I'd expected.
Ntcham has been a shrewd piece of business.

McGregors early season form has almost been like a new attack minded midfield signing.

Paddy on a permanant contract & I'll be happy with what we have.

There are players with faults, players who some might feel aren't CL standard (whatever that is considering we are a CL team) and players you'd think are pure muck from reading some on here despite being members of teams who've won 6 lge titles in a row & a treble last season.
What we do have is a huge amount of experiance in a quite young squad. Some quality young players currently starting. Some exciting young players on the fringes. Numerous players in differant positions and of varying ages actually visably improving under Brendan.

And of course with have Brendan & Chris.

As I say, Paddy on a 4 year deal & the squad as it is till Jan when we might do a bit more business as we prepare for more European football. I'd be quite content.
