Just because you've been oan the bandwagon for 6 months doesn't mean he's no been here for the past two and a half years.

Footballs a short career. He's signed a contract because either he wants to play with us until the end of it or because he wants to repay the club back by us getting a decent fee for him.

Can't pretend that I'm happy about a pishy 1 year extension..

Completely contradicts Brendan saying he wanted to be here and waffling about agent's etc. He's been persuaded to sign and be sold pretty soon-ish obviously..

Not impressed with him in the slightest. Slap 15 mill on his head and punt him to Swansea..

Prove your worth the extra money and we will sit down again next summer. Maybe that's what the club have told him.

Don't think anybody would pay 15 million for him mate, especially on current form.

Don't get me wrong, they should be, considering the amount of stupid money they throw about down there :giggle1::giggle1::giggle1:

No chance. Brendan has been publicly letting on with how thing's were going when saying he's said to Armstrong to sign a new deal and get a better move a year down the line..

The year extension is on his term's, that's a cert. We'd of done 3/4 if we could've..

We can put that on his head now and you'd be surprised how quickly this lot down here are quick to throw it about..

Swansea were interested in him and have just made half a tonne off the back of 1 sale, from the same kinda position..

If Armstrong can get near to his last year's form, have a couple of good game's in the group stages and still be representing Scotland then we can without doubt charge and get 15 for him in January at worst , or close to..

The getting knocked day's are long gone at Parkhead..

CRAIG Gordon believes that Stuart Armstrong’s new contract with Celtic will now allow the midfielder to get back to business on the pitch and build on the success he enjoyed under Brendan Rodgers last season.

Armstrong agreed a new two-year contract with the Hoops today which will see him remain at the club until at least the summer of 2019.

Speaking at Lennoxtown today, the Celtic goalkeeper said of his club and country team-mate: “He was one of our best players last season, so to get him tied down for another two years is brilliant for us. It tends to take a bit of time to get these sort of things sorted out. He’s done that now and we’re delighted to have him.

“Stuart’s a great player for us and a really good goal threat. He’s an important part of the team so it’s great to get him tied down.” It’s good for him to settle back into things and get back to doing what he does best. We’re all delighted that he can now move on and concentrate on the football.”

Armstrong has quickly become a fans' favourite at Celtic since joining from Dundee United in 2015. He scored on his debut against Partick Thistle in a 3-0 league win and has since go on to make 112 appearances for Celtic and has scored 25 goals. He was a vital part of the treble-winning Invincibles squad last season under Brendan Rodgers where he increased his previous season goal tally from four to 17.

Armstrong may live to regret this period where his head hasn't really been in the game. Broony's never getting dropped, Rogic has the #10 position sewn up, and N'Tcham has hit the ground running. Armstrong might find he struggles to win back his regular spot in the team.

I don't see the issue here. He's not handed in a transfer request. From what I could tell he was happy to see out his contract which is the whole point of a contract isn't it? He's now extended that.

Getting a bit big for his boots despite a fantastic period last season. Not overly pleased with 1 year.

BRENDAN Rodgers is thrilled that he will have the opportunity to continue working with Stuart Armstrong after the influential midfielder today signed a new two-year contract with Celtic.

The 25-year-old was a mainstay of the Treble Invincibles last season, scoring an impressive 17 goals as the Hoops swept all before them to make history. His fantastic form also saw him earn a lifelong ambition and represent the Scottish national team.

And now that Armstrong has committed his future to the Bhoys, the manager believes it will help him fully focus on his football again.

“I’m absolutely delighted,” he said. “I’m delighted for Stuart and the other players here as he’s made great strides in the last season, and he’s a player I really enjoy working with. To have him working here for another two years is great for us and it gives him a little bit of peace of mind and he can focus on his football.

“It’s never easy, not just for Stuart but for any player. The majority of players will work better with that bit of stability - they understand they are secure, even though in this modern game where it can be very difficult, but certainly a key factor with any player, not just Stuart, if you are unsure of where your future may lie or where it’s going to be, it can bring in different emotions.

“It’s good for him now. I felt he always wanted to sign and it was just a case of getting it over the line and done so well done to him, his agent and the club for getting it organised and sorted so he can really push on and hopefully have another good year.

“The club, the player and his representatives have found agreement. For me, I just wanted to ensure the player was happy and the club was happy. If they both could find that then I’m happy. For me, it’s good he has signed and he is here and we have at least got him for another two years."

Under the Irishman’s guidance, Armstrong has blossomed into a top-class midfielder, and the Hoops boss hopes the former Dundee United player can continue on this upward trajectory.

“I feel I have got to know him really well,” said the manager. “It’s done, it’s signed and sorted and he’s smiling and he’s happy, and we will be ready to see him hopefully perform to another high level this season.

“Stuart is very devoted to his life as a footballer. He is very professional. He comes in every day and he’s hungry to learn, to be better and improve, and so long as you have that then you have a chance to succeed.

“He’s blessed with physical qualities in that he has good power and speed, and he has a wonderful instinct to score goals.

"He’s a real good guy and I’m sure there are other players who have seen his journey to where he has come from as a young player and seen him grow into a top performer here for us as well as breaking into the Scottish national team, and hopefully that development will continue over the coming seasons.”

Ah okay, my mistake. Thought everyone was getting pissy because he was up this summer and letting it run down.

Happy to give him my support whilst he's here, but a one year extension is pathetic.

Tells you that he only wants to be here for a limited time, so in that respect - * you, Stu.

Lets not forget how important a player Stu was for us last year. Theres one thing about him its that he tries his * heart out every week in a celtic jersey. He would be an absolutely massive loss if he were to go this summer. If he has signed a contract and is going to be here doing the same thing for another two years then thats fine by me!!
