With two weeks left in the window Swansea will be a bit desperate which Lawwell has to use to our advantage, sure he only has a year left on his deal but when teams are desperate like Swansea are having just sold their best player then that won't matter too much as they need him NOW.

£45M for Sigurdsson, we should definitely be trying to squeeze another £2-4M out of them and trying to get between £8-10M, this is when Lawwell earns his bonus money.

However if Swansea are expecting Armstrong to be good replacement of Sigurdsson I think they're in for a disappointment. But at the end of the day you can't expect to replace a £45M player with an £8M player. I also think Armstrong would be more suited to CM than CAM (Which is where Sigurdsson played for Swansea) in the EPL.

Remember as well Dundee Utd have a sell on clause in his deal I'm sure, so we really need to gain as much as possible from Swansea. We should be using the deals of Wanyama and VVD to show them spending that kind of money on our players isn't a big risk/gamble for them from what they perceived that to be in the past. They also gave us £6M for Ki a few years ago who wasn't terrible for them (What is actually going on with him these days :39:?).

Anyway, bank as much as possible and put it towards a Paddy permanent deal.

As I said many times, I hope he fails, sits on the bench, and lose his place in the scottish national team to Callum McGregor.

We shouldn't be bitter, players will come and go, Celtic will always remain. :34:

Youre right Wanyama around 20% on profit if i remember correctly.

Not bad summer for dundee utd if thats the case with Robertson moving too.

Say he goes for £7m less the £1.6m we paid in 2015 thats just over £1m to Dundee Utd

Similar to the way we look to do our business. Also think Armstrong would be fine in the CAM role. He played a combination of there and beside Brown last season, and done well in both positions. For me though, he would be better further forward.

STUART ARMSTRONG is set to sign a new deal with Celtic within the next 48 hours.

SunSport understands there were further talks between his representatives and the club today and that progress had been made over a number of sticking points.

Both parties now believe that there will be a resolution to everyone’s satisfaction before the end of the week.

It’s understood Swansea City emerged as serious contenders to take the 25-year-old to the Premier League.

They viewed him as a potential replacement for Everton-bound Gylfi Sigurdsson and weren’t put off by the £6million asking price.

Armstrong’s advisers were criticised by Celts boss Brendan Rodgers on Tuesday over the length of time it’s taken for the midfielder’s new deal to be agreed.

Rodgers insisted: “It should have been organised, sorted and done six months ago.”

But all parties are now optimistic there will be an end to the stalemate over the next few days.

The Sun...they've been fairly reliable with our transfers and such to be fair.

If Armstrong signs a new contract in the next 48 hours or whatever then it seems like he's shat it from Rodgers' warnings.

Good move by Brendan if true!

Delighted if he signs, arguably our most creative player in midfield. Though after all the Paddy stuff I'm believing * all.

Got to agree with Brendan when it comes to this though - the way money is thrown around and how England operates now, it doesn't matter if you have 1 year or 10 years on your contract in Scotland, they will just come up and buy you if they want you. Signing a 4 year contract and having another season like last will not stop even a relegated team from coming in and affording him. The contract length isnt the issue here - nor is being stopped from going south. He could stay here another year and run his contract out - or sign a new one, get more money and play well, then get sold next year to the same club that would want him anyway.
