FFS guys try and debate with good reasoning and avoid the insults. Maybe then others will join in?

I'm proud of a lot of things, both Celtic and non-Celtic related, I don't have the time nor commitment to post all such instances in here or another forum. It is in no way a reflection of how important I see matters. As you've said, it's a side issue anyway, and for the most part isn't the bigger picture.

It comes down to two slight contrasts in opinion, and for the most part we probably agree anyway on most things. But my opinion is that the behaviour of these fans isn't acceptable, either in a stadium, a street or a front room. Whilst it will still unfortunately go on, as there are morons in our support as well as everywhere, that doesn't mean we should turn a blind eye to it or trivialise it.

So what is it you expect then?

Like I say, do we start up some sort of vigilante posse and start rounding up all Celtic fans who aren't behaving themselves?

I'm proud of the support in general - if one or two idiots * it up for THEMSELVES, it really doesn't matter one jot to me, as nothing changes with my support.

I won't be embarrassed to watch the team play for victory tomorrow because someone sang a song about Lee Rigby, I won't be embarrassed to tell people gleefully that I am a Celtic supporter because someone sang a song about Lee Rigby.......will you?

This. Interesting the chants of "how's your leg Seamus Coleman" which was chanted by a far greater number of fans and got plenty of coverage in Ireland had little to no effect on their Irish fan boys. Just the usual "doesn't every support have some bad eggs". The thing seems to be widely forgotten already.

Unfortunately ALL clubs have an element of * heads that spoil it for others eg Man Utd-hillsboro Liverpool - Munich etc , The press seem to be all over us at the moment looking for anything negative to derail our season , some people need to think of the Club 1st and foremost and think of the Consequences , im not saying stop any Reb songs etc but just keep within that boundary and dont give them ammo

Not quite sure what they were thinking TBH; but I know I've done worse things when I was young and drunk. Some of the things I've said in my life even as an older person and sober have probably caused more harm too TBH. Nevertheless it's hard to defend the chants per se as OK.

Folk like Padmill are not defending their actions as OK; they are defending young Celtic fans who did something stupid from the moralistic people (see some of the posts above, mate) who seem totally willing to hang them out to dry rather than just accept that we might sometimes do things that don't look good on social media.

Actually, while we're on the subject, I felt a little queasy last year watching certain people start to slate the GB for the Palestinian flags and then either go very quiet or change their tune when they realised that the whole "match the fine" thing was making us look good. That totally misses the point: it was a wonderful thing because it was a wonderful thing; not because it got the blessing of social media.

That's a very sweeping statement. Why does being young and daft, getting drunk and singing an offensive song make you less of a human being than someone who merely signed up to join an organisation that exists to support and facilitate (by killing people if necessary) structural injustice that causes (and has done for a very long time) so much death and misery?

It's supposed to be divisive. Don't take the bait. We'll have a close look at this EDl/Tommy Robinson connection and see what comes up.

Do you really think that these young fans actually care what anyone thinks? I don't as let's be honest when we're young and daft we don't care. I don't personally seek to ostracize even those I consider to be the eejits in our support....I live in hope that they will one day get a grip. That's by my standards of course :56:As for people moralizing well that's just about looking at the rights and wrongs of how we act, what we feel comfortable with. We can all learn from a little moralizing and perhaps if one or two of the guys singing that song actually read what we all had to say on the subject they might learn something either about themselves, other peoples viewpoints or just about something important in life. How people behave and how people respond to that behaviour goes well beyond the scope of this thread so perhaps for another day.
The concepts of beliefs, rights and wrongs all apply I agree but we could go round in circles all day discussing it.

What I mean by moralising is setting yourself up on the moral high ground and hanging other people out to dry. Your justified criticism and Padmill calling them dafties is totally bang on IMO; however certain other posters using scare quotes when referring to them as supporters, saying they aren't real supporters, implying that they are not welcome (by saying that they would welcome them back if they changed), calling it shameful and saying that these fans are "of no value" is out of order TBH. I'm not defending them from your kind of criticism (I bet they could probably benefit quite a lot from a stern talking to from you about growing up a bit if only you had been there TBH :giggle1:); I'm defending them from the former kind of moralising.

They are indeed dafties and behaved really stupidly (as have we all at times!), but there is no reason to suppose that they are genuinely bad people and they haven't done anything truly shameful. People who are up in arms because they feel embarrassed need to realise that their embarrassment and their unrealistic view of our support that underpins it is their own problem and not a reason to try and hang some of our own out to dry.
