Don't think he'll be a first team starter but think he will be part of their squad sadly

I do wonder how much of that though may have been keeping his talent away from others. Maybe the thinking was keep him off the radar and it'll keep the price down. Paddy was just that good people will always notice

So don't play him in case someone else notices he's good?

well, yeah. Sounds crazy granted but in that final 6 month I would have been tempted to keep his appearances minimal. City wouldnt be able to demand as a high of a fee because he is second fiddle to Forrest.

Far fetched but for me roberts is a better player than Forrest 9/10. Couldn't really understand when Forrest was given the nod ahead of him

He's not going to get a chance at City so get the finger out Celtic and bring him back.

I think it was more that forrest was our player and as paddy was loaned rodgers was less willing to play him.

Then he gave him a game and rodgers kept him there.

Rodgers has confirmed he has asked to be kept up-to-date on Paddys situation but SunSport understands Roberts — also wanted by a whole host of English and European sides — departed Glasgow believing that he had achieved all he could with the champions.

How the * would they scummy * know that :56::56::56:

At 19 he won 3 trophies and became an invincible. Isn't a lot more the kid could do here except improve in Europe. However, on a personal level. He could become an absolute club legend. Be adored on a scale he would never have even dreamed of. That's satisfaction money and any winners medal cannot give you.

BRENDAN RODGERS has left the door open for a stunning return to Celtic by Patrick Roberts.

The winger is currently trying to prove himself with Pep Guardiola’s star-studded Manchester City squad.

But asked if former loan star Roberts might come back, Celtic boss Rodgers said: “Maybe later on. Pat would be amazing for here but it all goes down to firstly, Manchester City and how they see his future.

“He has obviously gone away on tour with them and got some game-time. They’ll make a decision after that.

“Secondly, it is also the boy. The boy might not want to come back.

“The boy might want to play in the Premier League if he has somewhere to do that. He might fancy a spell in Europe.”

Roberts’ return would be warmly welcomed by the Parkhead faithful.

He signed off a dazzling 18-month loan period with a starring role in the Scottish Cup Final win over Aberdeen which secured only a fourth Treble for the Hoops — and sealed a remarkable 47 game unbeaten domestic campaign.

Celtic fans were desperate to see the club splash out to keep the 20-year-old permanently.

But Roberts instead left for his summer break intent on reporting back to City, who signed him from Fulham for £12million two years ago.

SunSport understands Roberts — also wanted by a whole host of English and European sides — departed Glasgow believing that he had achieved all he could with the champions.

But Rodgers insisted: “The club CAN bring him here.

“It’s more going to be whether the player sees this as the next step for him.”

Rodgers confirmed he has asked City to keep him informed of Roberts’ position.

Rodgers is currently working on strengthening his attacking options, with leading striker Moussa Dembele out until September and Leigh Griffiths understood to be winning a fitness fight to make the crunch Champions League qualifier against Rosenborg in Trondheim on Wednesday night.

The Celts boss stressed last week he didn’t feel he could bring in a third top-class hitman as it would upset the balance of the squad.

And on the possibility of a move for a new frontman, he said: “We’ll maybe look at a winger who can also play as a striker.”

Meantime, Rodgers is prepared to play Griffiths in Norway even if he’s not 100 per cent fit.

Without him and Dembele the team was toothless in Wednesday’s 0-0 draw with Rosenborg.

That result has ensured a tense night for the third qualifying round second leg before an expected 20,000 capacity crowd at Rosenborg’s Lerkendal Stadium.

Of Griffiths’ progress, Rodgers said: “He was out on the field today. We’ll need to wait and see, it’s still touch and go.

“It’s all about getting him on the flight next week.

“He’ll be short of match fitness but that’s how it goes.

“It’ll be down to how he feels — that’s what it boils down to.

“Leigh will want to play if he is somewhere near.”

Rodgers, meanwhile, joined his squad — minus Scott Brown, Erik Sviatchenko, Mikael Lustig and Griffiths — for the short flight from Glasgow to Newcastle to prepare for their friendly at Sunderland.

But he is confident about the chances of taking care of Rosenborg and moving to within 180 minutes of the Champions League group stages again.

Rodgers added: “There is a whole different pressure on Rosenborg now for their home game.

“We have the expectancy to qualify and we’re happy to live with that.

“But like last year, can we find a way? Hopefully, that will be the case.”

There is always an element of risk when you lay out big bucks for a player, but in this case we already know what the wee man can do in a Celtic jersey, it would make so much sense for everyone concerned :celt_2:

Think Brendan will target a RW who can play up top and a CB as a minimum reading the full comments now about different interviews what does stand out is he says it could be done closer to end of window therefore that would suggest we are waiting to see what happens Wednesday and possibly who we draw in playoff, if we get there As you can add a wild card upto 24 hours before the first leg which is the 15th or 16th August and 17th August for EL
