  8. I can make a few exceptions, but for the most part, you're foolishly throwing money away if you aren't buying the supermarket brands.

  9. I got a kayak from lidl last year for £40.great thing. Been out on the canal a few times and even went down the kelvin from dawsholm park to yorkhill. Had to get out a few times at shallow bits and the waterfall at Queen Margaret drive bridge but it's a good thing, sturdy.

Yes, very random items in lidl

  10. Ok it's made using the same process but with different ingredients, I know this as my job is making some of the own brand stuff for shops.

  12. Lidl's our main shop now and has been for a good few years......they were ahead of all the major players with regards to continental stuff...meats, cheeses, snacks and a lot of the big boys have now copied especially noticeable at xmas!! It was the only way they could try and get back some of the market they lost....but they can * off as they're still too pricey!!

Top-up now and again in Farmfoods for frozen stuff and other essentials!!

Our old main shop was Morribobs but the only time i'm now in there is milk/bread if we've run out as it's across the road......the best deals/loss-leaders in there are usually for * like biscuits, soft drinks, crisps and chocolate....mind you we all need a wee bit of that now and again!!

  13. asda smartprice peas are as close to ''real'' peas you can get.
morrisons smartprice curry sauce is a steal for 15p a jar. just drop in soya sauce to taste and you have a great base for a wee quick cheap curry.

  14. when I was working down in London I drove for a while with british bakeries,,,, hovis etc.
the thing was they made bread for M+S, sainsbury's, and waitrose for their own brands range. but one place we used to pick up from was called star bakeries near highbury rd, and they made donuts, nothing but donuts and these donuts where sold to M+S, Esso garages and your wee corner shops and the price difference was massive. all for the exact same thing.

  16. There's certain things I have to have branded like tomato sauce, beans etc...

Anyone that uses poor mans sauce is wan fur the watching.

  17. agree on beans and HP but we actually prefer Lidl's own tomato sauce!!:fear:

  18. Work in a butchers shop, we make our own steak pies - as you do. And one of the stores we sell product to (for them to sell on) is a cafe.
We sell an oval steak pie for 1.89. To hotels and shops we sell for 1.45. This particular cafe sells our pie for over 3 quid. On its own. No chips or anything. Just upselling the pie.
