BR on Craig Gordon latest: "Very simple. I spoke to you on Friday & told you he wasn't moving, told you last night no more movement."

BR: "We now sit here on Monday afternoon and I will tell you the exact same thing, nothing new to add.

BR: "He will be in the team (for the @AberdeenFC game

BR: "I repeat, we don't want to sell him. Between the club & his agent to find a new deal for him, which we believe we will do."

BR: "He's a real good guy, a real humble man.

BR: "I have seen one or two bits on how he was treated by me earlier on in the season - he and I have a great relationship."

BR: "We want to keep him here, no intention of losing him. We will look to arrange a new deal with him."

CRAIG GORDON is set to be rewarded with a bumper new contract by Celtic in the next 48 hours.

Chelsea were left disappointed after failing with TWO £3million-plus bids to lure the Scotland star to Stamford Bridge.

But SunSport can reveal Parkhead chiefs have now vowed to reward Gordon, 34, for staying.

The keeper’s agent was in touch with Celts chief Peter Lawwell when there was still time for talks with Chelsea.

Lawwell insisted there was no way Gordon would be allowed to leave, regardless of how much money was put on the table by the Blues.

With just 18 months to run on his current contract, Gordon had been intrigued by the prospect of joining the Premier League title challengers.

Chelsea were prepared to pay him around £50,000-a-week to get him as back-up for No1 Thibaut Courtois.D

But Celtic refused to budge, with gaffer Brendan Rodgers making it clear to the Hoops hierarchy Gordon was a major part of his plans.

Gordon’s believed to be hoping to pledge his future to the Hoops, and would be prepared to sign a FOUR-YEAR contract which would keep him at Parkhead until 2021.

Celtic face Aberdeen at home tonight meaning no negotiations will take place until tomorrow.

But Gordon’s agent is planning on travelling to Glasgow thrash out a new deal.

Why would you "reward him for staying" when it was the club who knocked the bids back and not him?

I also wouldnt bother offering him a new deal. He has 18 months left, I take it we have accepted that we aren't selling him, but I would sincerely hope we aim to replace him rather soon. If not this summer then next. And we dont want a 36 year old keeper on high wages playing back up.

I am relieved he is staying.
Unless I see someone better coming in then for all his faults it is Craig Gordon for me.
I would be happy if he just stops being kamikaze when he comes off his line- if he gets sent off then that may just be when our unbeaten run comes to a hault. But hey ho! I am happy that De Vries is not back between the sticks.

You'd reward him because he just lost the chance to double/triple his wages. This could make him upset/depressed. It's the right thing to do in my opinion.

Because we knocked the deal back, not him.
Because he is under contract for 18 months.
Because he is 34 and will be 36 when his contract is up.
Because a new contract will see him be 38 when it runs out.
Because do we really want to be spending a large wage on a keeper of that age?
Because we need a keeper a lot better than him, be it he has improved this year, we still need better to continue to improve. And then what do we pay a 29 year old first choice keeper when we have Gordon signing a bumper new pay deal.

When we get your mythical younger better keeper you'll realise Gordon is actually top qaulity and want him back. Keepers easily go to 40.

Happy he is staying and signing new contract. After all when we signed him. He wasn't on great wages. To lot of others becoz it was a punt on him at the time becoz off been out game for couple of years and injury prone. So new contract he deserves obviously don't lot of work on his game in training. And can't be that crap or that much of a bomb scare if Chelsea was going to pay 4 million and 50 grand a week. He is a top keeper. Ok does some scary moments when runs out box. But when on fire he is really good keeper. After all fasan has left good luck to him. De vries didn't look to good when coming in. So until we get anything better in. He best we have, and keepers can't play easy uo to 40s just have to look at some keepers. Who still top class:- van set Sar. Brad friedel. Lehman. Buffon. So if keeper keeps him self fit. Yoga. Flexibility and injury free he can easily still. E top keeper uo to 40s. So all good to me. Can't wait for game tonight anyone else going tonight. Wonder if see our new bhoy playing tonight

We'll live to rue not accepting offers for him, IMO. Paying him anymore than he already is getting is unrealistic. Would you say he's had an outstanding season? No...so why does he deserve a reward? He's lucky to find himself where he is. I can't help but think we're settling, instead of showing a bit of ambition and getting someone else in who'll help take us to the next level.

I was all for keeping him but... a 4 year contract extension? Seems a bit much.

    "Mythical"
There is a world of goalkeepers out there younger and better than Gordon.

If we are knocking back 4 million for him and about to offer a bigger wage to him, then we can afford better in my opinion. And many others will agree

Give him a contract that ends in a coaching role.

I could be wrong but I imagine his current contract will be ripped up and the new one will be for 4 years, so its like a 2 year extension.
