Maybe to some extent, but not imo at the sheer output of goals and assists that Ronaldo has been contributing the past few years. As you say he's playing a certain unique role, a role he's perfected over the years, taken to the absolute pinnacle of its capabilities. You can't help but say it's proven effective for him....

Personally I like Ronaldo. According to some old team mates he's a good guy even though he comes across as an arrogant *. I like him however.

I question his clutchness. Messi usually shows up in big games (e.g. Finals) and makes a difference, whereas Ronaldo sometimes can't be seen when it matters most.

Aye, he is a weird player and an anomaly for me. It's hard to compare him to other players as really all other players had their style and just done it well.

Like you can say Shevchenko, Henry, Jamie Vardy, Michael Owen etc all done the same type of job - the fast attacker who tried to burst through defences and finish 1 on 1 but Shevechenko and Henry just done it to far higher levels than the others or had more qualities to their game like better touch, vision, passing were just more complete players. Same comparing Figo, Giggs, Ljungberg or Ballack, Gerrard, Lampard.... Keane, Simeone, Davids and whoever players of any positions most players all have fairly similar styles of play to a lot of other players they just have more qualities or do it better.

Nobody really plays like Cristiano Ronaldo or ever has that I know of. Where he does 1 thing really well - pop up with goals but most other stuff he doesn't even attempt anything else. Like you can't even compare how he'd fare in comparison to Robben at dribbling in from the wing and scoring because Ronaldo when he gets the ball out wide will 9 times out of 10 turn back and pass it backwards, then he'll run forward and hope that other players have made moves to feed it to him in the box.

I would say though that if Brazilian Ronaldo played nowadays he'd score 50 a season easy and we all know his allround play was quality as well, would probably only be 2nd to Messi. Brazilian Ronaldo would be like Suarez but with Ronaldinho mixed in with the touch and ability to beat players with skill and trickery.

Quite surprised that Ronaldo has the most CL assists in history, 32...

But it's not only big games he doesn't show up, it's every week, he either manages to get goals or he doesn't but he never dictates a game or take the onus upon himself to win games or that wether Real are playing Osasuna at home or Bayern Munich away in a CL semi - Ronaldo will hide on the outskirts of the game, not see much of the ball, whenever he does see the ball he'll probably pass it backwards and his main aim will be to get into the box to arrive onto crosses or sneak his way into positions to recieve the ball in shooting areas.

Messi is the opposite, every game he plays he tries to control the game from start to finish, create, dominate and whatever.

Messi could go on a 10 game run without scoring a goal and still have been the best player in his team in all 10 games. If Ronaldo doesn't score then he's probably just made games more difficult for his team mates and been one of it not the worst player.

Messi always gets dragged into any C Ronaldo discussion.

He should be left alone on his higher plain from everyone else, where he belongs.

Ronaldo. He had his best season at Barcelona and never reached that height again. C.Ronaldo kept improving for years.

This hardly dribbles, hardly plays through balls, doesn't tackle, doesn't cross is a load of * man. :56:

He scores 50-60 goals every single season, without fail, in the worlds top competitions.

Everything else is totally irrelevant when you're producing those numbers.

Can never understand how people can still rate Brazilian Ronaldo above Cristiano. Brazilian Ronaldo was phenomenal but Cristiano has been destroying the two best leagues in Europe for a decade now, also a 3 time champions league and pretty much single handedly won Portugal the euros.

Maybe it was but they would have been out at the group stage if it wasn't for him.

Nope, Nani done more in the group stages than him and probably all tournament, they won it as a team mate, a very boring one but they done their jobs.

Natural talent - Brazilian. We never actually really saw him at his 'peak' as injuries ruined him.

In terms of how they'll go down in history? Cristiano will walk it.
