Was on the news earlier, apparently they just sacked him without reporting it.

Just sounds like everybody in the 70s,80s just allowed all this * to go on. Hopefully investigated properly snd every single guilty person is brought to justice. Dirty scum *.

There'll be other clubs who dealt with it the same way. Not nice to hear or to think about but undoubtedly the case.

Its a major scandal right enough, wouldnt be surprised if all clubs are involved at some point...Sickening tbh

Cant stand that point scoring pish though....its * despicable.....The zombies going on how they rose above it and got rid of one of these nonces.....As if it makes them a better club, its the only deplorable thing they can hold on to.

The acts are utterly shocking, but to act like that over such a scandal and believe you have some high moral ground is shameless

The victims here are the children involved...in all clubs/sports.....they should be all named and shamed...regardless of a club

Anybody who uses child abuse to score points really ought to reassess themselves. Just about as bad as the perpetrators.

Edit - read it lowlife lurkers...

This is getting crazy. So many sick * involved.
I wonder how these guys felt when the Jimmy Saville case caused a huge uprising in outing loads of sexual abuse cases. They must have thought it would all come to light then. Seemed like the dust settled on that a bit and now it's finally out.

Torbett said that the reason he left celtic the first time was due to "a conflict of interests", Stein never sacked him, he knew nothing about what was going on.

That's a different version of events to what I've read then. I read somewhere that Jock Stein wanted him removed and said as much to the board.

    I agree.

If allegations of child abuse leave you practically moist with excitement then you're no better than a peadophile.

Today's papers couldn't report that kit man who used to work for Celtic fast enough, the fact that he was at Hibs and Falkirk was just a little side line.

I'm no expert on the Torbett case , but my recollections are ( from reading posts on forums ) that he wasn't employed by Celtic . He was involved in the Celtic Boys Club , an ad hoc group , which although it was closely linked with Celtic FC . It was not an official arm of the club . He was somebody that put money into Celtic through advertisements for his trophy shop , and possibly sponsorship . So if rumours were circulating of inappropriate behaviour , he may have been less likely to have been " leant upon " by the hierarchy . I feel what I've just posted is far too vague to be aloud to stand without comment by other forum members that are more clued up . Please provide a more articulate summary of the case .

Just on news that there are at least 98 clubs affected by this in the UK.

This is just the UK as well, fairly naive to think it wouldn't have gone on across the continent.

In other sports also rugby, cricket, martial arts etc and in other clubs such as scouts, boys brigade a full scale inquiry should be carried out. Once this is done new safeguards have to be put in place to avoid repeats. It is a depressing thought because paranoia is going to set in amongst children, parents and coaches alike due to a very small number of scumbags.

Aye, there will be cases in just about any big sport you can think of. Both in the past and right now. It's * disgusting.

You're right about the last sentence. There's going to be a growing fear amongst parents especially, and who can blame them.

To think there was a time when touching kids was OK. And we lived through it! I'm glad society has changed but what they got away with was appalling. Boarding schools, scout halls, football coaches, BBC, children's homes. The list is never ending.

My sympathies go out for those people that have to live with the abuse. It destroys lives. I just hope some of those clubs get held accountable. Chelsea's story and their coach? That's foul. Some of those SKY billions should get shared out.
