Has anybody read a 'Confederacy of Dunces' by John Kennedy Toole?

Reading this book right now.Even though he was a captain/admiral for the Royal navy he was renegade who hated the British establishment who in return hated him and done everything in their power to demean his accomplishments. The film Master and Commander is based on this Scottish man and not some upper class Englishman. When i researched all the battles this guy won against the French/Spanish/Portuguese i thought it was made up until i started reading the book.French called him the Sea Wolf and Spanish El Diablo. They all feared him and he should be more famous than Nelson but as he's Scottish that wasn't aloud to happen.

The Royal Navy got rid of him because they couldn't have a Scot becoming such a hero so he joined the Brazil navy and helped them get their Independence, then joined the Chile and Peruvian navies and helped them.Freedom fighter if ever there was one.

What is a decent sci-fi or fantasy novel to read? Ive never been into those types of books but after watching game of thrones etc id like to try reading one. Preferably not already a tv show or film as i end up just picturing the characters as they are on the show.

For sci-fi how about you try the Foundation series of books by Isaac Asimov classics they are. For fantasy how about Mordants Need by Stephen Donaldson.

Read this today as I'm going to be reading it with a class over the next few weeks.

Thought it was quite good, had me in stitches at points.

I'm listening to The Football Ramble audiobook at the moment, I'm enjoying it so far but as good as they are on the podcast something seems a litttle off just hearing them reading the book so I think I'm just going to order the book.

Why did he even enlist in the British Army if he resented them anyway? It looks a cracking read but he sounds like a mercenary given his service to the Brazilians and other countries.
