Brendan Fraudgers!

Discussion in 'World Football' started by Mr. Slippyfist, May 20, 2016.

  1. Brendan knows his stuff.

  2. Smart man is Brendan knows the score

  3. Aye, that's spot on. He's building and trailing the first team that will be hard to beat - probably more with the latter stages of qualification in mind. Guys need playing time together to get a better understanding. Probably not the prettiest footballing side we could put out, but not a team that will get steamrolled by any opposition.

  7. Sorry if this has alreadyd been posted, didn't see it in the match thread, this thread or the Griffiths thread --

Brendan Rodgers has slated sneaky Slovenian Erik Janza for spitting on Leigh Griffiths in Celtic's final Champions League warm-up match.

The Celtic boss spoke out after the Maribor left-back appeared to spit on Scotland striker Griffiths late in the first half of the friendly, prompting instant fury on the pitch — and on the Celtic bench.

Speaking after an ill-tempered draw, that one ugly incident the only real talking point, Rodgers — who confronted the player and referee during the game — said: 'The full-back spat at Leigh Griffiths.

'Disgrace it was. A disgraceful act. Leigh challenged for ball, used his body — and the full-back turned and spat at him. He shouldn't have been on the field.

'The referee didn't see it. I spoke to him at half-time, then again before the start of the second half. He didn't see it. The linesmen didn't see it.

These are competitive games but friendly by nature. That shouldn't happen. Not in any game, least of all a friendly. I haven't seen the Maribor manager to talk to him about it.'

-- Good on Rodgers to stick up for Griffiths, show a bit of balls. Can already sense a greater bond within the squad with regards to the manager and players having unity, something we obviously lacked under Deila last year.

  8. BRENDAN Rodgers has declared himself delighted with Celtic’s 13-day pre-season trip to Slovenia after the Hoops jetted out of Maribor bound for their first competitive contest of the campaign in Gibraltar.
Along with undergoing some intense training sessions in the summer heat, where the new manager had the opportunity to spend valuable time working with his players, the Scottish champions played four friendlies, winning two and drawing two, and honing their match sharpness.
While the Hoops boss admits he’s still in the early stages of implementing his plans for the team, he will lead his team into their UEFA Champions League second qualifying round tie against Lincoln Red Imps feeling positive about how his players have responded to his demands.
Speaking exclusively to the official Celtic website, he said: “It’s been a huge benefit as it takes you away and you are virtually in each other’s pockets for the two weeks.
“We have put in a lot of great work, not just on the field where the fitness has been developed throughout, but also in the tactical ideas we are trying to implement which I can see improving on a daily basis.
“You get to see them more in a pressure situation but certainly over time, they're challenged in every aspect of the game – technically, tactically, physically and mentally.
"You get to see them operate under stress and with the conditions as well which are very hot and humid, so there are a lot of stresses put on the players. But they have coped excellently and their willingness and attitude to be better players has been very clear to me.
“It’s still going to take time for it to be fully integrated but we have been able to set some standards off the field as well, establishing as a team our goals that we want to achieve for the season and our values as a team, the real true values of how we want to work.
"So we have had that, along with lots of analysis, preparation and time together, getting to know characters and their behaviour.
“It’s been such a joy coming in," he added. "The staff have been first-class and given us great support. All in all, it’s been a great experience, I have really enjoyed it so far."
Having had time to work closely with the squad of players he inherited, the Irishman has been very pleased at their ability and commitment. He has also been able to identify what areas of the team he needs to bolster which he will do with careful precision.
“I have really enjoyed working with all the players and getting to see them,” said the manager. “Some I knew, like Scott Brown along with a few of the international boys, but others I didn’t have a great idea of and it’s been really good to look at them really closely and see how they are working.
“I have been really impressed by the quality of the team and if we can get some players in to help them and increase that quality, then it should serve us well for the season.
“There are one or two areas where the players need help with and that’s something the club and I are looking closely at to look and see if we can do anything on that front.”

  9. Wouldn't be against a couple of loan moves from Liverpool, hopefully he's still on good terms..

    Thinking maybe Danny Ings..

    :shamrock:

    I know :icon_mrgreen:

Crow, anyone? When will Rodgers 1st official pre-match media conference appear on Celtic TV?

    :shamrock: HH

  12. Anybody else fear that our squad is actually quite poor...

Brendan isn't a miracle worker, for me we still need to add three or four players of quality!

    Feel free to reassure! :50:

  13. We have enough to see us through the Imps games.

I'm sure some signings are around the corner. :50:

  14. Sorry mate Imps games? You mean the CL qualifiers?

  15. Just the Imps games mate. :smiley-laughing002:

  16. Is there a transfer deadline before each qualifying round ?

So if we beat this mob, we have however long to sign a player/players before the next game ? Then again for the following game, if we make it ?

  17. I would hope so.

  18. Pretty sure the deadline for a signing playing tonight passed on Thursday but we get to have one wildcard signing play play in each round if they missed the deadline. Pretty sure it works the same way for every round.
