Harsh lesson for the young guys, they should have won that. They had numerous chances to close it out.

Regan looks like a classy wee player.

Out of Europe once again ffs!! Deila out!:47::31:

In all seriousness quite enjoyed that. Could've easily won in 90 minutes but didn't take the chances, penalties were rotten though. A few good individual performances.

Tommy McIntyre was hugely proud of his players after their agonising penalty-kicks defeat to Valencia in tonight’s UEFA Youth League play-off clash at Celtic Park.
The young Hoops took the lead five minutes before the break when 15-year-old Jack Aitchison fastened onto Jamie McCart’s through ball, rounded goalkeeper Antonio Sivera and coolly slotted home.
They had further chances to add to their tally after half-time, and then their cause looked to be aided as the visitors’ captain Javier Jimenez was given his marching orders with just under 20 minutes left on the clock.
But the ten-men managed to restore parity through substitute Ismael Martinez, sending the match to penalty kicks where the hosts would endure heartache.
Aidan McIlduff and Fiacre Kelleher both had chances to win the shootout but failed to find the net, allowing Valencia to clinch the last-16 spot when Sivera saved from Jamie McCart in sudden death.
Despite the deeply disappointing ending the match, McIntyre was still full of praise for his young charges for how they rose to the challenge.
Speaking exclusively to the official website, he said: “I’m immensely proud. We are a young side, the youngest side in the tournament, but I see that as a challenge.
“We have eight or nine players out on loan which is great for the club as they are getting that first-team experience and we have the next group coming through.
“They had a big challenge against a strong side, a very good side, and the way the players prepared for the game, addressed the game and the attitude they showed on the pitch was first class.
“Although it may seem disappointing because of the nature of how the game finished, as long as they learn from it, that is the main thing.
“They really listened to the analysis and information we had given them over the last two or three days. You could see that evident on the pitch. We had studied them and they had a game-plan and they stuck to it and got their reward from that, so they were taking things on board.
“We lacked a bit of physicality at times but that will come with the programmes they are on. What pleased me was they stuck together as a team and how they played the way we wanted them to, passing the ball around.
“I would have liked to have utilised the spare man a wee bit more as I felt we never really asked enough questions of them with 10 men but that comes with experience and that’s something they will hopefully continue to develop.
“After the game, we highlighted to them that we were really proud of them. To a man they did really well.
“Penalty kicks is a lottery but we focused on the 90 minutes and how much effort they put in. They really worked hard.
"Off the ball, we closed them down and never allowed them to play the way they like to. On the ball, we kept the ball for good periods and created two or three really good chances and could have got that second goal. They stuck to the gameplan and they should be proud as they did really well.”
On goalscorer Aitchison, who impressed despite being the youngest player on the pitch by far, McIntyre added:
“It’s great for him. He’s 15 and he’s level-headed. He has a lot of good people around him and good staff around him as well.
“When he played against Puskas Akademia he did very well. We have no fears about his age as he showed he could stand up to the challenge and it’s something we need to nurture. He knows now that it’s always hard work but he’s the type of player that always gives you that.”

I thought it was a great game. One of the few times I've enjoyed myself at a Celtic game this season. :fear:

The boys deserved to win. They done themselves proud.

    That dive! :52:

    The pitch invaders :smiley-laughing002:

There was a good turnout and atmosphere at the game, just a shame we didn't win.

I really like the look of no 10, 7 and 11. Glad I went, and will be going to a lot more of our DS games.

It was two wee guys who ran on to the pitch during a corner. The stewards had to chase them but couldn't catch them and they ran off and out the park.:smiley-laughing002:

Should have shut up shop after the red card and seen it out.

    Bit naive to be honest.

Penalties were honking, from both sides.

Yes they were, special mention to the Captain as his was really bad. I really thought we would do it at 1-0 up and with 6 minutes to go...

They scored and all these Spanish people came out of nowhere. :smiley-laughing002:

I think yer right about being naive but I'm sure(hope) they will learn from it.:50:

The Keeper gave them confidence by thinking he was Messi.

We looked all over the place after that mistake and they capitalised. We really should be winning at 1 nil against 10 men.

Could you see him from behind his ashes?

I think he rubbed muck on his napper before going in.
