  1. I do remember them conceding a lot of goals, even the season they finished 2nd.

Thing is though, if he has us playing that type of attacking football then we should be alright, domestically we will still blow teams away and I think we should be good enough to get through qualifiers playing that style of football and without having to worry too much about being overly defensive or cautious. There's a time and a place though, remember we were 2-0 up against Malmo and were still throwing people forward and leaving ourselves vulnerable at the back, that was just naive and you will make it difficult for yourself playing in Europe like that.

It's a different story altogether if we get into the Groups and have to face a Real Madrid or Bayern or whatever, but I don't think Rodgers is stupid, he's not going to set us up the same way against those types of teams. I think in the long run we will become a better team if we keep trying to play football the right way though, even in Europe against teams not too far off is in quality.

  2. One of my main worries with Rodgers is that he might be quick to * off after a couple seasons chasing an EPL dream again.

I'd like to get at least 4 or 5 seasons out of this next gaffer, all going well.

  3. Rogers' Liverpool conceded a lot of goals because of the way they played. They were a very attaching team.

I'd love it to be him.

On another note.. Anyone else think that we'll announce it on Sat to steal the headlines from the cup final :D

  4. If i had a choice between Rodgers or Lennon then id rather Rodgers, all im saying is that if we fail to get one of the two big names (Rodgers and Moyes) and if we are having to resort to people like Keane, Mckay etc then id rather we brought Lenny back than anyone else.

  5. Rodgers played a certain way at Liverpool to get the best out of the players at his disposal. When you have someone like Suarez and mediocre defenders you're obviously gonna base your game more around Suarez's strengths. I mean Rodgers was desperate to sign Williams from Swansea but Liverpool's transfer committee as a whole was against the signing due to his age and that's why they ended up with younger defenders like Sakho and Lovren. I think this was a stumbling block in terms of Rodgers trying to build a better defence, think of how much better they'd have been with an experienced Williams at the back helping someone like Sakho alongside him?

Rodgers was a near miracle worker making the best of what he had in the 13/14 season, it honestly shouldn't have done as well as it did. A poor goalkeeper, Johnsen isn't a great defender, Sakho was very raw, Skertl isn't brilliant and a 33/34 year old Gerrard as the sole holding midfielder ahead of that shaky back four with players like Coutinho, Henderson, Sterling, Sturridge and Suarez all pressing really high.

After that season Rodgers was rebuilding again signing young defenders and young defensive midfielders like Can, to an extent that he was never really allowed to build an experienced defence due to the way the transfer committee works there. I mean it's not as if Klopp has had much better success making Liverpool defensively more solid when you see how many goals they've conceded to teams like Norwich, Southampton, Dortmund, Arsenal, Swansea, conceding 3 or more in all these games.

  6. No manager at Liverpool has done well with their defence since Rafa Benitez left. It's been 6 years since he left and in comparison with the 6 years he spent at the club, they've conceded over 100 more goals than under the same time period under Rafa. Seems to be a systematic problem at the club for some strange reason - or simply the fact that their defenders are poor.

If Rodgers came, he'd certainly have to disprove any concerns he's defensively suspect. That said, for a promotion team, his Swansea side were relatively good in 2011-12.

  7. Didn't his side set the record for goals in a season though in 13/14? As long as we were outscoring and winning games I couldn't care less.

It's when we are conceding and not scoring that the problems begin!

  8. Rodgers all day long

  9. As galling as it is to mention this and in the event we can't get someone of Rodgers or Moyes standard, getting someone of Mark Warburtons calibre would be fine. His record at Brentford is far better than some of the abject names being tossed around - like Roy friggin Keane.

You see, this is one of the most irritating thing about some fans who want Lennon. He was utterly abject at Bolton, yet Warburton in the same league built some solid foundations at Brentford with young players and good football and just missed out on them getting into promotion. And some are wanting Lennon back? He's a neanderthal in comparison with someone like Warburton which is shocking to say.

If Lawwell and Desmond don't get their act together and hire a regressive choice like Lennon, then we are just gifting Rangers a back to the top.

This is why we need someone of intent. They really need to push the boat out for this - complacent and abject choices like Lennon and Keane will see us go backwards and backwards and before we know it, that lot will be champions.

Are you putting the loaf forward for the job?

  10. They did mate, but another good thing about Rodgers is his coaching of youth. That was his original job at Chelsea, and he did a lot at both Swansea and Liverpool for youth.

It's high time we started developing top talent again. For such a fabled academy, we've neglected it badly over the last few years with players coming through who aren't frankly good enough. It's shameful for a club of the Lisbon Lions and Qualit Street Gang that we've all but neglected it. Some embers of recovery there with a few bright sparks coming through (which I think Deila is to be credited for) but someone of Rodgers calibre would really be able to push on with academy reforms and ensuring we are self-sustainable. We're not going to get in the Champions League simply by looking at the transfer market - we have to be shrewd in that area but more importantly have an academy that will give us the best foundation possible.

Guys like Lennon wouldn't have a clue, nor Keane.

Being Celtic manager comes with a whole host of responsibilities - not merely standing in the dugout on match day and training the first team squad. They're needs to be a comprehensive approach to the running of the entire club with a manager who takes seriously his role for the future of the club too (I.e. The academy).

  11. Christ no! But I'm saying we can't appoint below his standard.

And like it or not, Lennon and Keane are below his standard.

  12. Lennon wouldn't have a clue.

Yet managed us to the last 16 of the Champions League. Strange.

  13. I would like to think he'll be found out next season. Not been tested much at all yet.
Saying that Lennon is below his standard is nonsense when Lenny has won titles and taken a team to the champions league last 16.
Not saying He would be my first choice but you're being disrespectful to put him behind the sevco manager.

  14. :smiley-laughing002: that made me laugh I must admit

  15. +1.

  16. :50:

  17. Moyes 2/1
    Keane 5/2
    Rodgers 3/1
    Lambert 5/1
    Lennon 8/1

  18. In lanzarote just now and a guy told me he lives two doors away from brendan rodgers brother and had been told that Rodgers will come to celtic if he gets 20 million to spend. Sounds promising if true

Could be a load of pish though.

  19. If so, then it won't be Rodgers... we're no gonna be spending 20m.
