EURO 2016

Discussion in 'World Football' started by ILoveTheCeltic, Dec 11, 2015.

  1. Backing Italy at 16/1.

  2. Patricio

    Cedric Alves Pepe Eliseu

    Gomes Sanches Moutinho

    Mario Ronaldo Quaresma

    Pretty good team

Any team with Ronaldo in it looks instantly dangerous.

That being said their midfield is very weak on paper.

  3. Fonte infront of Alves whose a bomb scare and liability half the time. Coentrao no going?

Decent side but not a lot in reserve..

  4. I reckon we could get out of the group if Zlatan is up for it. He is our main threat, by a mile. The man dragged us to the Euros basically. If he's injured or isn't getting any service I can see us doing badly.

  5. Don't think I've ever been less interested in a big football tournament. Not sure if it's because Scotland aren't there, I've become jaded with football in general, or what it is. Maybe it'll change when it starts but for now I have no plans to watch it.

  6. I'm not 100% sure but I think Coentrao might be injured? Barely played for Monaco this season.

I like big Bruno Alves, don't think he's a bombscare at all. Getting on a bit though.

  7. Yeah, Zlatan aside it's a pretty poor squad. I think you'll get 3rd place but can't see you guys getting much further than the last 16.

  8. They might get 3rd ahead of Italy, yeah.

In all seriousness I do think Ireland are going to win at least one game and that would probably be enough to finish in the top 3. Even if we lose to Sweden, it's not like in Euro 2012 where we lost to Croatia initially and then had no chance, as Belgium and Italy now aren't on the same level as Spain and Italy at that tournament, plus we are in much better shape ourselves now I think.

I can't wait for it, it's going to be a cracking tournament.

  9. Im heading over for the Sweden game , cant wait. Im hoping we can get a result against them,

  10. Will lustig play right full for you??, I think we will give you a good game.

  11. Coentrão, Danny and Bernardo Silva are injured.

Portugal has a batch of great players emerging, but they're all very young and unfortunately we'll have to see the old mans brigade one more time: Eduardo, Bruno Alves, Nani and Quaresma should've left this team already. Cedric is average. Eder is pure trash, but that I can understand due to the lack of goalscorers.

    Eduardo -> Miguel Silva (Vitória)

    Cedric -> André Almeida (Benfica)

Bruno Alves -> Ruben Semedo (Sporting), Daniel Carriço (Sevilla)

Nani / Quaresma -> Pizzi (Benfica), Diogo Jota (recently signed for Atlético Madrid), Iuri Medeiros (Sporting)

Eder -> Postiga? Even worst, so that's ok. We'll have to wait for José Gomes (7 goals / 5 games in the UEFA Youth League and currently 6 goals / 4 games in the Euro u-17) to mature.

The best 11 out of those called would be see something like:
    Patrício
    Vieirinha
    José Fonte
    Pepe
    Eliseu
    Danilo
    André Gomes
    Renato Sanches
    João Mário
    Rafa
    Ronaldo

    Won't happen.

  12. You've definitely got a chance of nicking a point off Italy this time round. Just can't see yous beating Sweden.

  13. I see the Sweden game as more or less 50/50, could really go either way.

  14. Probably injured then..

Alves is rash and slow. Getting on as well and I would never have him over Fonte..

That Gomes kid (under 17) is superb..... Especially in the air..

Vieririnha? Has always impressed me for Wolfsburg. He'd be in my 11..

  15. Whenever you think it couldn't get any worse, have a look at Switzerland's roster. I'm glad I don't support them, but my friends are having a difficult time right now :56:

My sympathies lie with Ireland :shamrock:

  16. I am begining to wonder if there is anything we don't agree on:shamrock: By the way I love your sig don't think I mentioned that before.

  17. That's true my fellow Raider. :50: Thanks for the compliment, Paul67 is the man.

  18. Aye, if he's fit he'll most likely play. He hasn't been bad for the national team tbh. We're not blessed with brilliant full backs, I'd say what we lack in defense we make up for in attack

  19. Ireland Sweden has a draw written all over it for me, Swedish are no mugs and routinely qualify for tournaments. An ageing poor Italy side which is missing some big players may be our chance to grab three points.

Seems to be a bit of bitterness from some Scottish based Celts this year in particular to ourselves, not sure if its to do with us qualifying or not but its alarming to see the rise in support for the SFA team amongst Celtic fans over the last few years, pretty much unheard of in years gone by
