Minute's silence before the game on Saturday

Discussion in 'Celtic Chat' started by kevski82, Nov 17, 2015.

  1. Fair enough I just think it is a bit of a cop out ( and here I am not talking about you. Or indeed the silence on Saturday) to talk about "common decency" etc in relation to a minutes silence until you are asked to observe one for something you don't believe in or feel strongly against.

  2. It will obviously be respected and observed. I am pleased that it will be a minutes silence as well, as opposed to applause which is just a cop out.

  3. I dont like minutes silences and find them a lot of pish, if people want to remember things they'd do it at home etc

Applaused should only be done when about ex players or legends of the sport etc who have died.

As if we're doing them for deaths in terrorist attacks we could do it at every game of the season unless we're only picking and choosing, what about the Russians on the plane a couple of weeks before? we didnt bother our arses then.

  4. At least yhey cant attempt to fine us if we show support for the people of Palestine in the future.

  5. Hear, Hear.

For some I understand the strong stance of not wanting to follow some silences. I won't agree with it, but I will understand peoples views for various different moments and why they have those feelings. I would personally always rather they upheld them, but I won't come wading in here next November demanding decency.
Just this current one I struggle to see why anyone would have any struggle of conflict with it.

Anyway, before we return to going around in circles as we are all liable to do on this forum, at least we are all decent folk here, regardless.

  6. They will but.

    Keep Politics out of Football.

  7. Yeah the likes of Daily Record will be wanting something to write about. Hopefully everyone keeps quiet, I don't like minutes silence it should be a minutes applause at football.

  8. When they do the silences at games, nobodies really interested anyway, everyone will stand quiet looking about listening to people coughing and sniffing or weans talking and their das trying to shut them up wondering when the whistles going to blow to end the silence so we can breathe again.

By the time we do this silence it'll be over a week since it happened, people have thought about it and moved on in that time.

  9. ILTC is bang on here.

We'd be having silences every week if it carries on like this. Picking and choosing what gets a silence and what doesn't isn't right. Either do them all or do none.

  10. Just keep your mouth shut for 1 whole minute, its not that hard

  11. I assume everyone who is moaning about it is going to the game?

If not, why you even bothered.

  12. People have to remember these people specifically targeted a football stadium, with the intent to kill and injure football fans. I don't see why anybody would ever have a problem with other football fans showing their respects for those who were killed, and showing their solidarity with those who could have been killed. Simple matter of the fact is a lot of people here seem to have an issue with this is because they've chosen to do a minutes silence for White Europeans. They're offended almost.

This atrocity could easily have been Glasgow, Edinburgh, London or Dublin..

It's an attack on our very way of life including our freedom of speech. It's correct that we mark it respectfully before moving on, to the relatively mundane sporting event.

Just because the odd smashed idiot can't keep their mouth shut for 60secs shouldn't mean the club doesn't mark the event if it sees fit.

It's the first time we've played since the event and I back the clubs decision to mark it.

After the attacks in Madrid before we played Barca there was no debate then, granted the attack was the day before the match.

To suggest it won't be observed respectfully is a pointless debate, it will.

  13. These eejits tried to blow up people watching a football match-just like we all will be doing on Saturday-empathy goes a long way!!

  14. People who do good deeds always pick and choose. If the Green Brigade and other Celtic fans collect food and money for the Glasgow Foodbank they have chosen a cause to support. Why not give the food to people who are starving in Africa? There is no answer to that question. It is just that people need to do something and it is normal that people care about thing that happen closeby.

The only way not to discriminate between events is doing nothing. But that will certainly not make the world a better place.

One cannot care about the atrocities in other parts of the world if such person cannot even care about the things that happen closeby and directly affect that person's way of life.

  15. Don't have an issue with the minutes silence, we had previous minutes silences(Barcelona a while back for the Madrid Train Bombings) which have been observed.

My personal opinion, we should have a minute of chanting "Allez les bleus"( in line with the sport context), let the voices be heard to support the people of France.

  16. It's a fantastic football club we support not a political party, anything that tarnishes the reputation of great club disgusts me personally.

Yes I know we have a few which cannot stand still for a single minute to show respect, well while their voicing their objections think about Celtic Football Club and not their own little world.

  17. it's a nice gesture, it annoys me the double standards though, you show support for Palestine and you get fined.

  18. Some amount of idiots in this thread that apparently don't know the difference between a silence for the British Army and a silence for innocent people on a night out.

But hey, don't let that get in the way of a good old rant before anything has actually happened.

    Morons.
