I've known his name for a long time now purely due to fitbaw games :52:

I'm always more excited when we're trying to sign a player from a country with a bit of pedigree, rather than a * like steven Fletcher for example. He might not work out the way we'd hope, but there's the potential he could make us a better team and help us keep possession better in european games.

I hope there's truth to it.

I don't see the point in spending millions on a player with a similar record to scepovic in the spanish second tier when scepovic doesn't even get on the bench. For anyone saying "well he plays for boja juniors", they aren't even one of the top Argentinian sides anymore, this boy is 23 and if he was that good they wouldn't be loaning him out.

He doesn't play for them anymore, it's called Boca Juniors, and they're one of the top sides in South America (let alone Argentina) going on form.

Signed this * on fm12 I think it was and he scored 50 odd goals in a season for us.

If that's not a sign of a sure thing then I don't know what is.

I know they're called Boca Juniors, maybe this season but it looks like they finished 5th last year, so I'd imagine they were in the position to loan out any decent players.

That's exactly how I read the the situation as well. Got the feeling that if there was nothing in it he would just say that.

Looks like he might be one of our main targets, interesting.

Guessing there would be no work permit problems, due to him already being in Europe for a couple year?

Being an Argentine footballer he'll almost certainly have an Italian or Spanish passport. With a name like Araújo he will most likely have a Spanish one.

The clubs and agents normally get these things sorted out very quickly so they can sell on.

    Ah right, I see.

Just wondering as often the reason teams don't shop about in South America more often is down to work permit problems.

I think Rafael was the last one we bought straight from South America but I remember we had Coehlo on a trial from Corinthians quite a few years back.

Not that he'd have had work permit problems, but, remember we were linked with Rivaldo as well, think it was back in 2004 after Larsson left.:smiley-laughing002:

Its no, we would get a work permit for basically anycunt we wanted.

We only need to point out to the gobermnent that the player is better and more valuable to us than someone in the uk which is pish easy for us

big problem is probably the hassle of south americans being owned by allsortsa * wanting money off you then dodgy agents but even then if they were in our price range we could sign who we want

ibrahim, mizuno, wanayma and probably others all got work permits no bother

Yeah, so players, clubs and agents work around this by going down the family trees to find European links (which is hard to find of course). Those of Italian descent make up over 60% of the Argentine population and Argentine Spanish is still very "Italian" so I've heard. There is a long tradition of Argentines, Brazilians, Uruguayans etc playing for European national teams. Luis Monti for example, played in the 1930 World Cup Final for Argentina then won the 1934 World Cup with Italy. There are loads of other oriundi from those days, the Italian national team that won two World Cups was built on them.

So loads of them have Italian passports. Messi; Di María, Lavezzi, Mascherano, Verón etc. Spanish ones include Zabaleta and Juan Pablo Sorín had a French one. I don't know why this hasn't happened as much with Brazilian players, as Brazil has a larger Italian population than Argentina.

And another famous oriundi is the Brazilian José Altafini. Anyone who watched Football Italia on Channel 4 will remember him screaming golaçoooo in the opening credits :smiley-laughing002:

The fact that Araújo is already in Europe means he almost certainly has a EU passport (I guess you need one for loans?). And if he doesn't have one, then the process of getting him one won't be a difficult one. As pointed out the big problem will be his ownership and negotiating that rabbit warren, but with the ban coming in on third party ownership the people that own him should be willing to sell.
