The Hoops had the on-loan Las Palmas frontman watched in January, and boss Ronny Deila has been impressed by reports on the 23-year-old.

Araujo is still contracted to Boca Juniors, and Celtic would have to agree a deal with his Argentinian owners over a potential loan or permanent transfer, which would cost around £3million.

The under-23 cap has a goal every two games ratio for Las Palmas in the Spanish second division, and has also had successful loan spells at Barcelona B and with Argentinian club Tigre.

One of Deila’s priorities is to bring in a central striker, and 5ft 11in Araujo is one of the names on his list for next season’s Champions League assault.

John Guidetti’s loan deal from Manchester City is up next month and he looks unlikely to stay. That would leave Deila with just Leigh Griffiths and Stefan Scepovic, who has failed to impress since his summer switch from Sporting Gijon.

You only end up at Boca Juniors and Barcelona if you have something about you.

The Šćepović argument doesn't stack up. We brought Boerrigter and Van Dijk in from the Netherlands; Gershon and Wanyama from Belgium; Johansen and Bangura from Norway and Sweden, respectively - two very similar markets. Besides, Šćepović might still come good.

Didn't do a huge amount for Tigre during his loan spell but has always been rated highly. He is a classic "showbol" kind of player, great ability to manoeuvre in small spaces. While at Tigre he didn't look comfortable as the main striker, and got all his goals (admittedly only four) when playing off the main striker. I don't know if that has changed now.

He's a name I've heard of purely thanks to FM, has always had something about him though. As has been said, Boca Juniors and Barca's academies ain't too bad eh.

Could be a goer, second time we've been mentioned in the same breath as him

5'11, good with the ball in tight spaces, not a great scorer but decent and scores most of his goals playing off a main striker, scored some wonder goals, hmmm......

Not ideal if we're going to stay with our 1 up top system. Griffiths plays better with a partner too

    I trust Ronny's judgement though.

Been reading up on him the past half hour or so, much more excited about the prospect of this now. Seems to be have always been highly rated and the kind of striker who fans would pay to see.

Watched a few videos and he looks like a poor man's Aguero. Not just saying that for the obvious similarities either. Has a similar style and dribbling technique.

It's stupid to spend money in another striker when we will never have more than 1 striker in the pitch. Specially when this money could be used in other areas and we don't have a sub to Izzy, one of our starter CBs and maybe both are going to leave next summer and their sub is Ambrose, etc.

Well said . I knew as soon as this guy played in Serie B that people would be saying hes * because of Scepovic . Nonsense. As you say , Boca and Barca shows he has a bit of pedigree. Good age , great name , worth a punt.

    Doesnt really mean much though.

Laim Miller = Celtic and Man Utd
Anthony Stokes = Celtic and Arsenal
Marc Crosas = Celtic, Lyon and Barcelona
Efrain Juarez = Celtic and Barcelona
Evander Sno = Celtic, Ajax and Feyenoord

Guidetti as well, Celtic, Feyenoord and Man City and Ibrahim, Celtic, PSV and Sporting Lisbon

Youd assume all these players had to be of very good quality to attract such clubs but none of them are any more than decent to good Celtic level players.

Ronny was asked about him at the press conference today. Said he didn't want to comment and that he learned his lesson (I'm guessing from Armstrong).

But he's commented on other players since then, so maybe there's something to this one?

Aye just remembered him plus Guidetti - Celtic, Feyenoord and Man City.

Looking at the clubs some of these * have been at youd assume quality players.

Andre Blackman aswell - Celtic, Spurs and Arsenal think he also had trials with Chelsea probably selling the big issue now at about 24.
