We should sign him. If he turns out to be a world class player it would do us no harm if he had us on his track record.

This would a great bit of business. Attracting a potential world class wonder kid to Celtic is excellent news.
We are a development club that finds players, improves them and sells them on to help the club break even financially.
If we can continue to attract talented players from other clubs to come and play for us and improve their talents, this will help our kids, our first team and our standing in European football. Ideally we would have one or two high profile loans each season to compliment and help bring thru our own young players. Much in the same way Cantona was bought to lead and inspire the class of 92. Ronny and classes and lawwell have got a development plan for the future of this club and I am very excited.

Doesn't fit into our system but he set up the most goals in our team last season, was the most creative player? Just what the * does that say about the rest of the team?

The bolded part is one of those buzz phrases that people repeat all the time. He was our highest assister last season from wide left. His pressing was excellent. His guile and creativity was good, he worked hard for the team. He fitted the literal definition of fitting into the system.

Do I think he is undroppable? No. Do I think he should be a regular starter? No. But he still adds value to our side even if he is not playing. People keep talking about punting Stokes and young McGregor is never mentioned. Are we to assume that we should sell Stokes and keep McGregor?

Why are people wanting to move Tony on when there is far more players worthy of the chop? Why does Stokes even have to go in the first place? He is a good player who can do a job when we need him to

    Totally forgot about McGregor...

Hopefully we can get him out on loan to an SPL side or something.

We should just get rid. He's never going to be anywhere near good enough.

No sure we'll get many bids tbh.. Get him out on loan, bang in a few goals, then see if we can sell.

Sure we were offered 1m from wolves last season, will be nowhere near that now I don't think.

Stokes played a lot of games before we bought Armstrong and GMS, for whom he was instantly dropped, only coming back into the squad when they were unavailable. The only player in his position who played more games were Commons and Johanson, and Commons had the same number of assists.

This assist argument is papering over the fact that Stokes was average to poor last season and doesn't fir into Delia's plans. He had 9 assists.

EDIT - I always forget about McGregor. He's pish

No, Commons doesn't but it's quite interesting that Commons was another who was accused of not being able to fit into the system.

He had 13 assists last season and no he wasn't, up until Christmas he was probably player lf the year. Him and Izzy were our biggest creative outlets, when he got injured it all went very flat.

Man of the Match League Cup Final as well, so big part in silverware, set up the most goals in Europe (but aye he's pish in that obviously eh?), set up the most goals in 4 out of his 5 seasons, only season he didn't he was injured for 7 months.

He's a highly creative player, he has a good goalscoring record, can play a variety of positions and you know what you're getting from him. The one thin he can't do and people insist on judging him on is leading the line himself.

Is that even true about him having most assists? Can't find it anywhere.

I agree with the bold bit. But if someone was to come in and he got less and less appearances don't be surprised.

Search 'Celtic Player Stats' on here. They're updated by ILTC after every game.

Got the games he set them up as well.

I do, I like creative players. They're my favourite types of players. I agree right now he's lost his place but people are * idiotic when it comes to him.

They tend to forget and write off anything he does, it's absolutely * bizarre.

    This most likely true?

If he was probably player of the year up until Christmas then why was he the first player dropped to make way for our new signings and never got back into contention.

Stokes is a fine SPFL player but GMS, Armstrong, Commons, Johanson, Forrest are all better than him and ahead of him in the position he now plays for us.

I'm nt judging him on leading the line as it's ridiculously obvious he can't do that, I'm judging him as a winger/ left sided playmaker and I don't think he's overly suited to that either.

:56:So too does everyone that didn't start supporting Celtic last season. The constant embarrassment of comments degrading his right to remain at the club is laughable.

Stokes will do what he always does, until we sell, and that is rack up assists and goals like any Celtic fan should be proud of.

With some on this thread mentioning Stokes it got me thinking. What;s happened to Stokes about his trial.
