That's true, but I was maybe a bit unclear. I meant that if we were still in the CL hunt by the end of the transfer window. I was upset actually about Forster leaving early but I understood the reasoning behind it. I think we had already decided to sell and when we found out that we were no longer in the hunt we couldn't delay any longer. But with VVD it's a bit different because of how he has been acting when he wants away. I simply don't think the gamble adds up.

Sorry mate correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the summer window close Sep 1 and we played Maribor 26th Aug, so we could wait to see how it plays out. Do a deal then ratify after the game.

But in Virgil's case it would be a massive gamble as he has already shown transfers can mess with his head.

Yep, I clarified with my next post hopefully. I was thinking about when we were qualifying for the Europa League but got a bit mixed up with all of the toing and froing with Legia. I was a bit miffed about Forster but when it comes to Virgil my main point is that, as you said, when he wants away he's a shadow of himself. The gamble there isn't worth it for me. First, if we are eliminated then his value goes down because teams know we are desperate. Second, his value his hit again because he shows that he doesn't handle uncertainty or disappointment very well.

So keeping our best defender for these games is more of a gamble than selling him?

Are you intentionally ignoring the bit about his mentality just to annoy?

Depends on Virgil. If his head or heart isn't in it, and is North London say then it woud be better not to play him.

Your argument may have some validity to it. Perhaps Sutton could do with being more understanding of the fact that we don't have the same size of player budget now that we had when he was playing here. There is an element of unfairness in comparing this Celtic side to the ones Sutton played in, if that is what he is doing. Even if we accept that this is the case I still strongly disagree with those who say that Sutton's comments are motivated by some sort of spite. I have no doubts whatsoever in my mind that Chris Sutton would be delighted if we were somehow to go on and win the Europa League or even just knock Inter Milan out.

I think it's pretty obvious that the Celtic teams Chris Sutton was a part of were vastly superior to the present Celtic team so those are the "heights" we are obviously talking about. We reached a European final in 2003 which in my opinion clearly trumps reaching the last 16 of the Champions League.

I don't agree, Shaqiri gave him a tough time and he made a mistake for a goal, but his delivery was good. cross for Griff header, Long ball to Griff that lead to Mackay-Steven Chance, Cross to Johansen that lead to Griff chance. He was a bigger influence than it seemed. Defensively exposed by Armstrong too.

No he is a professional footballer who will be playing for a move, we will be grand. And believe me we will be better off with him in the team for these games.

They had a free run down our left hand side, his starting position should have been deeper, VVD was pulled wide to cover him, he was our weak link. I love Izzy lad but he was awful in that game

Why did he need dropped for the Dundee game if he is so professional.

Its unbelievable that a player who played for us for several years, scored goals for us against oldco rangers and in big European nights could be so spiteful towards Celtic. He is obviously one of these players that never connected with the club, he would never be coming out with the vindictive crap hes been spouting all season if he did.

A great player but a real * of man....completely spoiled his reputation with the Celtic fans who had previously remembered him fondly.

So people want to hear propaganda that suits their views rather than the opinion of a player who was fantastic for us. Good to know. For the record i have disagreed with a lot that he has said this year but i think the abuse he is getting from people on here is shocking.

Even his attitude towards the legends who won the european cup was disrespectful. Why wouldnt the guys who won the biggest prize be telling there stories to the guys in the team. Came accross like he was sick of hearing their historic tales!!
