The Football War - Episode 4:6 - Celtic vs. Rangers

Discussion in 'Celtic Chat' started by Gauder, Feb 13, 2015.

  1. Hi all!

I hope you all like this episode of The Football War as the series is called.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HSeqGB---xQ

A little bit about me, I'm a Norwegian guy who spent three years in Scotland and got a little under the Scottish skin while there. My favourite team would be Rosenborg, as the local team. Sorry about Brattbakk. But Brattbakk is also where my history with Celtic started. So first it was Brattbakk, then it was Riseth, and I was following Celtic a little closer than your average neutral football fan. Then I moved to Scotland, and just happened to get a few catholic friends, and my history with Celtic deepened. What really did it was a trip with a Spanish friend of mine and me to Paris, and it just so happened that Celtic was playing Bordeaux the same week, so when we left from Prestwick, the plane was filled with Celtic supporters. It's a long story, I can tell it if you'd like, but we sang along all the way to Paris.

Then in 2010, the show I just posted a video from was aired in Norway. The guy in it, Bård Tufte Johansen, is a comedian and obviously a football fan. So he travelled around the world, visiting and watching games that are famous around the world for being intense rivalries. This is episode 4, where he visits Glasgow and Belfast to find out more about the Old Firm from the point of view of a neutral football fan.

As for translation, I did my best to get the subtitles right. If you wonder about some of the things he says, I only translated what he said. If you have a problem with it... send an email to Bård Tufte to complain.

So Deila got me to do this, to be honest. It was just good timing... and I'll put subtitles on the other episodes as well, but it takes a little time, so bear with me.

    Anyway, hi!

Hello friend, and welcome to the forum! :50: Coincidently I'm doing my dissertation on the Celtic-Rangers rivalry, so that video might come in useful!

  2. Mate, Brattback may have been a bit terrible, and his only decent performance was when he played against us when you guys beat us 2-0 in 2001, but he scored the most important goal in my memory for us. For that I will always love him.

  3. The part with the fried mars bar was class! :smiley-laughing002:

  4. "I don't count killing Catholics as murder"
    * mental attitude to have, fair play to his mate who told him he was talking a lot of *.
Agree with paul about Brattbakk, for that goal alone he has a special place in our history

  5. The Football War?

The war is over, 'the Rebels have won'.

  6. Fried Mars bars look mank man:38:

  7. Had me in stitches lol :56::56:

  8. Singing The Famine is over, why don't you go home? whilst sitting in a pub in Belfast. They don't do irony, do they? :smiley-laughing002:

  9. Has antbody ever seen one of those programmes where they go in with the huns?

Thats 3 of them i've seen that are basically the same, that one, Danny Dyer one and another English boy from Vice and they all went in with Celtic fans.

  10. Seriously that man with the tooth, quality! :56::56::56:

  11. :56:

He reminded me of my Granda when he was younger and used to get blootered, he'd march about the house like that saying English * etc then sing Scottish songs kinda half joking but that drunk he never really knew what he was doing.

  12. Them rangers supporters in Belfast seem like nice people :50:

  13. Cool mate. I will give that a watch.

  14. :56:Too stupid to know any better

  15. That's as good a documentary as I've ever seen on Celtic/Rangers.

As ILTC says it speaks volumes that the presenters always go in with the Celtic fans...

  16. Yep..
    Nope..

Watch this later for a giggle..

  17. I haven't watched this one

But the only one I enjoyed was the Vice one, I felt it was genuinely trying to understand the problems between both sides rather than the BBC style productions which simply want to "Showcase" about divisions. The young Vice boy really showed how much he was learning with his narrative of the episode.

Anyone remember that one in the 90s with big Sam from Haghill? Sitting with a Rangers kit too small for him eating toast and beans with a framed photo of the queen next to him? hahaha
I heard someone say he died around 2002 of a heart condition, he was was a total * bigot in that show but I hope not, he seemed young.

  18. Good watch. Apart from one guy singing 'say hello to the Provos' ... There was no 'controversial songs' from our fans. Whereas every single Hun moment was filled with hatred and bigotry.
Stupid *, with his tooth falling out. :56: :56:
