It's not just a fight they are looking for though but a justification of their stance against the West. They fight under the banner of hating a Western culture that is intolerant of them, attacks like this reinforce the minority of Westerners who are intolerant of them and the numbers of the intolerant grow, so in turn ISIS (or other fundamentalist groups) can say 'see they do hate us, look how much they hate us,' and thus young Muslims are living in a society which is reflective of the message that ISIS is preaching, though reflective of it purely due to the actions of ISIS.

    You think so?

If this is IS-related then I'd have to disagree. From the admittedly limited knowledge I have of that group their primary issue isn't Western actions in the Middle-East, but the spreading of their particular brand of Islam. That's not to say that our involvement in the Middle East plays no part, of course.

Regardless of our involvement in any kind of war they believe that the likes of freedom of speech is something that should not exist. It's either the word of *, or nothing.

They would likely have an issue with countries that support freedom of speech, freedom of religion and who choose not to live exclusively by religious law regardless of the situation that we see in the Middle East.

There's a reason why they're attacking the offices of a satirical magazine and not attacking an army barracks or a Government building.

Are you allowed to post them here mate? One of them is a full on shot of one of the police officers being executed while lying on the ground. It's pretty horrific. I wish I hadn't watched it.

Best not to then. Might give them a miss, thought it was just them shooting and not seeing any bodies.

Blatent attack on freedom of speech.

I had a wee look at the news there. Looks like the Parisian police were completely unprepared. Does anyone know if they carry guns? As far as I can see, the murderers just casually walked in, killed people for a while, walked out, killed some more then drove away.

No blood but he is dead. The way he holds his hands up when he is lying on the ground before they shoot him is just * up.

Four people have been confirmed dead, including the the magazine’s editor and cartoonist, Stéphane Charbonnier, and three other cartoonists: Cabu, Georges Wolinski and Bernard Verlhac.

    The editor, Stéphane Charbonnier had been quoted as saying the following a few years ago;

"If you start by asking whether or not you have the right or not to draw Muhammad … then the next question is, can you put Muslims in the paper? And then, can you put human beings in the paper?

In the end, you can’t put anything in, and the handful of extremists who are agitating around the world and in France will have won."

The one people that you would think they would be watching very closely and these people manage to have AK's a * rocket launcher! I guess France being surrounded by countries makes it easier for bringing in weapons but still * nuts. They looked like soldiers even wearing what looked like bullet proof vests.

So all Muslims are scum, even the ones who don't engage in this sort of stuff, you know the vast majority of them.

I'm not the biggest fan Islam by any stretch, or religion in general, but please be aware that there are actually Muslim Celtic fans for one thing and some of us even have good friends who're of that faith.

Hostile policies towards Muslim population in France.Intervention in Africa and Middle East.Rise of the far right.

I think whoever ignored the French governments advice, not to publish provocative images of a naked Prophet Muhammad, has a certain degree of responsibility for what has happened.I do understand that there are groups and individuals who would kill and murder innocent people regardless.I just don't understand what they hoped to acheive by printing them in the first place. It was selfish and put people at risk.

The 'religion of peace' and 'scum the lot of them' comments are all too predictable.I'm just pointing out that these attacks didn't exactly come out of the blue and without the conditions created by the French government/media ,probably wouldn't have happened.

The far-right will do well out of this, but the Islamists have attacked the far-left now. Will we now see those on the far-left taking a different view now more similar to some on the far-right?! This magazine does not share all the views that the left share but they do see it as important magazine and I do think eventually different left movements will sound quite similar to the right regarding Islam. I guess time will tell. Maybe that is another reason for attacking the left as these terrorists want all out war they have no interest in right or left they want everyone against them and all out conflict.

Interesting to see people on a Celtic forum of all places labelling whole groups of people as terrorists and making generalisations about whole religions on the back of a minority of murderers.

I certainly know my mum had a great time dealing with this type of attitude as an Irish Catholic living in Manchester in the 1980's.

Freedom of speech and freedom of expression should not be compromised by vile people and their warped ideologies. It's a satirical left-wing magazine that mocks many sections of society and religions... Only one section acts in this manner though and it's not the first time is it? This time is only even more brutal and barbaric. Don't make excuses for them.
