  1. Derby County and Celtic set to battle it out to sign prolific striker
Steve McClaren’s Derby County and Scottish giants Celtic are interested in Chesterfield striker Eoin Doyle, according to the Irish Independent.

Doyle, 26, has proved to be a revelation for Chesterfield this season and has already scored an impressive 21 goals in all competitions for the club.

The Dublin-born forward signed a new deal at the Sky Bet League One club back in August, however he could be set for a move away if the right offer is placed.

It is highly unlikely Chesterfield boss Paul Cook will want to see one of the club’s prized assets leave, however if a sizeable fee comes in for the striker, a move may have to happen.

Doyle is known for his superb movement in and around the opposition box, making him a menace for opposing defenders. His knack of finishing opportunities handed to him is also very impressive, his ability to score goals is somewhat resemblant to a young Michael Owen.

The Irish Independent suggests that Cardiff City, Sheffield United, Preston, Bristol City and Millwall are also eyeing a potential move for the clinical striker.

Doyle joined Chesterfield from Scottish side Hibernian in 2013, and he has really hit the ground running at the club after scoring 29 goals in 64 appearances at the club.

The 26-year-old forward has had previous spells at the aforementioned Hibernian, Sligo Rovers, Shamrock Rovers and Shelbourne.

A move to Derby County or Celtic will be a significant change in Doyle’s professional career, and he would need to quickly adapt to playing football in a higher division, but there is no denying he has the talent to succeed in a tougher league.

  2. Would be immense, get rid of Guidetti and get him signed!!!!!!

  3. Nah, the rumour have started promising as well

  4. 21 goals in 25 games this season

    New Larsson :notworthy

  5. Used to play for hibs last year and done next to nothing alongside griffiths, who done it all.

    Just.... just no.

  6. He's matured now.

Im only joking but it's funny that he has scored 21 goals in 25 games in League 1 which is probably a stronger League than the SPL but * would be raging if we signed him yet that fat * Ciftci has scored 8 goals in 19 games for Dundee Utd and * are wanting us to pay £2million for him.

  7. * was shocking for Hibs. Plenty have done well in League One and flopped up here. James Collins at Hibs last season for example was horrendous.

  8. I think the difference is with Ciftci, we have seen him in the flesh every week, and know how he plays.

  9. Seen him playing and scoring loads of times for Sligo Rovers, and he,s a very good player when in form.

But it seams to be Paul Cook (Chesterfield manager- ex Sligo Rovers manager) that brings out the best in Eoin.

He,s Worth the gamble me thinks!

  10. League 1 is not a higher standard than the SPL

Doyle was poor in the SPL last year

Ciftci has been good in the SPL this year and last.

I wouldn't pay £2m for Ciftci but I'd definitely have him over Eoin * Doyle.

  11. I thought I recognised the name. That * from Hibs. :56:

  12. League 1 is bottom half of the Scottish Premiership standard. I can't believe some would have Eoin * Doyle, a Hibernian reject, over Çiftçi who has at least shown glimpses of talent.

  13. Works the other way too though where poor/average League 1 players do well up here... Higdon, Rooney, Billy McKay(League 2) etc even Ciftci played in League 1 for Portsmouth scoring 2 in 22 although was only 18.

Clarkson played in League 2 and is now scoring for fun here. Curier, O'Halloran, John Sutton,

Don't know. Would Aberdeen, Dundee Utd, Inverness, St Johnstone and Hamilton really beat Bristol City, Swindon, Preston, Sheffield Utd and Bradford?

  15. Looking on twitter and people seem to be thinking Chesterfield want £2m for him. No thank you

  16. was thinking thos must be someone else called eoin doyle, turns out its the same eoin doyle. No thanks.

Also, Daryl Murphy is scoring goals for fun in the English Championship, goalscoring records do not mean they can play for celtic.
