There's a dog wandering around the dam behind where I stay, just sitting in the water most of the time. He's absolutely soaking, just staring out at the water and the weathers * miserable.,,he won't stick around long enough for me to get a good look.I'm thinking take him into mine for the night and round to the vets in the morning to see what I should do?

    * do I do here man?Don't want to just leave it.

I don't know exactly but if you take him in, get him dried and fed and take him to the vets tomorrow you can find out if he's chipped.

    Fair play to you btw.

What Doire said is spot on. Take him in for the night so he has somewhere warm to sleep then get it sorted tomorrow.

Be careful that you don't heat him up too fast, you don't want to drastically change from the miserable cold outside to being wrapped up in towels and blankets! Make sure his coat is as dry as possible (and be careful since you don't know his temperament) and leave the heating on. He'll find somewhere to make his bed for the night.

Looks like an old yin, fair play to you for looking after him:50:

Hope nothing has happened to its owner if it staring out on the water all the time not moving. Just a thought..

I know it's worrying tbh,not much more I can do until the morning. The dog is dry and sleeping on an old bath robe now.Gave ( I think it's actually a her) it some water and left it in the living room.

Let him/her rest like you say, take the dog out in the morning on a lead and see where it wants to go, might take you back down to the water and see how he/she behaves. Might just be old age and a bit senile. Good on you for taking care of it :celt_2:
