Seeing a Championship team spend 11 million on one player just rubs it in. The Championship teams will all past us by let alone the EPL teams. Imagine what it will be like in five or less years maybe the League one or two teams will even be spending more on players than us.

:50: I'm glad their fans are taking a stand against Sky,and I must say their ground seems to have a great atmosphere, even though it's one of the smaller grounds in the EPL

The one upside is we can sign talent that want to go to the epl eventually, but need to prove themselves first. Couple seasons of VVD, wanyamas etc is how it'll be for the foreseeable future. Come next year if the tribute act survive, we will have 2 full stadiums extra, ticket prices for the newcos games increasing along with season tickets, and tv will be more interested leading to a better deal. Then we can up wages for better players. The sad truth is, players would sign just to play against the oldco and experience that atmosphere we create.

How many people on this forum only know football in the post-sky era though?

I personally remember what I call "the good old days", but there's maybe not a lot on here who do?

    Remember those days well.

Sky is rather like the internet and mobile phones: those who are too young to remember how good life was before won't believe it when we tell you.

The main reason we're in the position we're in is because of Sky. As soon as they pumped more money into the bottom half of the Premiership than they knew what to do with, we were *.

You wonder how high wages can go. Who's the highest paid in the world and what is he on ? About 400-500k a week ?

    Ridiculous.

I think Ronaldo when he signed for Real was on £539k per week, and since I've heard Messi has overtaken him.

Imo it's the tax that does the most damage to Scottish football. Places like Turkey where the tax is a lot less are really booming football wise, loads of new stadia being built in Turkey.

    Henrik Larsson (obvious choice ehh?)

I'm almost certain he began at £200k a week. He's now on £330k a week. The highest was Eto on about £400k a week at ahnzi. Maybe after bonus though.

Thing about Ronaldo is that's just basic wage he has bonuses sponsors and most definitely taking a big cut out of his merchandising off real

There is no doubt about it the epl is a league on steroids in the form of the massive tv contracts they have. Reality is they will continue to be able to throw around massive money as long as the tv money keeps coming in.
The current 3b deal goes through the 2015-16 season. But already the premier league are trying to pit Sky against BT and looking to start the bidding for the rights from 2016-17 even earlier then usual. So I don't see the epl blowing up financially any time soon.
