I never denied this I actually referred to it as quoted above. The only thing I dispute is that blue was St Patricks colour.

I'd like to see the support make a statement before the referendum (singing, flags, etc.) but long-term, I don't think there's really a need to adapt a more Scottish identity.

However, if we ever do play the Huns - * forbid - then I'd love to see the whole stadium getting it right up them. :smiley-laughing002:

We don't really need to celebrate our Scottish identity. No other club in Scotland does.

My problem is with the people that try and push a Scottish identity onto Celtic as a form of rejection of Celtic's Irish identity.

Yip, I dislike that. Equally, people denying the Scottish (or Celtic) identity of the club.

As I said to Vert, it was something I have heard before. When I went and had a search there are a lot of different sources claiming it to be blue as well. The link I used was because of the source, as I said to North, I thought that one would be on safe ground and be accepted.

Well I think Scottish is a bit of a stretch, more Glaswegian. And that's about 3/4 Irish anyway. :icon_mrgreen:

Blue has been associated with St Pat in the past as green is now however it is just association and not his colour.

I'm not sure about the blue in that specific picture, though. Or the green, for that matter. The chasuble is in the Gothic-style, so it's the right cut for the Early Church—the Gothic-style haven grown out from the "ponchos" of ancient Rome—but I can't place the blue gown underneath it. Under the chasuble should come the stole, which you can see the gold braiding of. The stole's tied, on the left for a deacon, on the right for a priest, and secured with the cincture. And underneath that is the white alb, which is definitely there. So I don't know where the blue gown comes from in this picture, as the sign of a bishop is the pallium which, incidentally, is absent from that picture.

I believe the Sarum Rite—which is the Rite that became standard in the British Isles just prior to the Reformation—used Red in place of Green for the Season after Pentecost, with Green being the Roman usage. The Sarum Rite developed from the Celtic, Roman-British/Gaulish tradition, and I don't know if the Gauls used Green for the Time after Pentecost either. Although I believe both were familiar with green, it may not have been regularly used.

But then again, people made do with whatever cloths and dyes they had back then. And nine times out of tent, you'd only have a few colours at hand. White/Gold for most feasts and Sundays, Purple for the penitential seasons, and black for requiems. But the Purple can double up for that.

They should really change the flag. Blue, white and orange. Ah.

One of the things to look forward to if / when we grow king size balls and gain our independence is the civil unrest from the loyalist / unionist / royalist community...

I am looking forward to defending my new countries status and hosing them mingy manky dogs down :smiley-laughing002:
