I was born in 1996 and I of course couldn't follow the Jansen era. I grew up in the MON era. This question has always been on my mind for years. What was your first reaction when Larsson signed for Celtic back in 1997? Did people think he was going to be a flop?

    Nobody knew anything about him.
Expect the bullshit to start flying to the contrary below....and action!

    Edit:
When Larsson took off ,I remember a mate of mine at school who was a huns fan honking on about how all we'd done was take a midfielder and put him in as a striker.I shut him up by telling him that Rangers should maybe do the same thing with one of their players.

I knew he would be world class from the off.

I'd been watching him for 5 years and could tell you that this lad would be a star.

Also I could just tell cause I'm awesomeballs.

Nah really though, I kinda got the impression he would be decent backup player :52:

I liked him from the off and thought he must be a good player, due to the dreadlocks, that's the only reason, had no knowledge of him really, then again I was only 12

Didn't really pay much attention to the signing.

The only reason I knew who he was was because of his appearances in the 1994 World Cup for Sweden.

Don't get me wrong, he didn't really stand out to me at that tournament for any other reasons than his hair.

I figured he'd be decent enough, but no one could have known he'd do what he did for us. His reputation upon leaving Feyenoord wasn't really anything more than stellar, but that may have something to do with extenuating circumstances.

I was on holiday when he signed and knew nothing about him but hoped he was a quality player like Di Canio or Pierre Van Hooijdonk. After his first league game everyone said he was * lol.

I would say that the Larsson that signed for us was nowhere near the quality of the of the Larsson who got us to Seville. He improved enormously in his time at Celtic.

I thought he was a terrible player. My view didn't change.

I think the quality was always there, which is why Jansen was so desperate to sign him.

As I mentioned, there were extenuating circumstances as to why he hadn't set the league alight at Feyenoord.

He was always a quality player, he just needed to right platform to show it, which we provided.

I knew he'd never cut it at Celtic. I think 240 odd goals proved my point. Useless.

At first he just look liked a reasonable signing,he was not really played as an out and out striker either.

Always remember seeing him playing in the World Cup for Sweden and that thought he had cool as * hair, so I knew we had signed a sweedish international player but that's about it and after that Hibs game I thought, * me these scummy * are gonna do 10 in a row and the rest is history.........

Forgot to add my cousin thought we signed Cobi Jones and was like that American boy was * the day for us.

Have never paid much attention to foreign football but remembered seeing him score to get Sweden 3rd place in the 1994 World Cup. Thought at the time he'd be alright although like everyone else l had my doubts after the Hibs game.

Amazed on here that if we were to sign a player from Outer Mongolia the amount of posters who are experts on Outer Mongolian football.

Also remember him play world cup for sweeden and they had a great team at the time , he signed for us and I thought he would be a decent player , but wot changed everything for us and him was when he was switched from attacking mid to striker position, it seemed the roll was made for him .

I was hopeful when he signed that he might be good. We had signed a couple of foreign players who had looked the business in previous years - Pierre, Thom, Cadete - and I hoped Larsson might match up.

After the Hibs game I would happily have kicked him out the door mind you. Couldn't pass. couldn't stay on his feet. Looked a bit hopeless.

my dad took me to the game aged 8 against hibs and I liked the funny looking guy with the hair mainly cause I hadn't seen anyone with dreadlocks in the flesh but my dads friend said he wouldn't be back while jansen was incharge if that's the calibre of player he was signing as Celtic lost there starmen Di Canio, Van Hooijdonk & Cadette in the past season, so replacing them was a priority. Signings like Craig Burley, Darren Jackon, Larsson and Rieper were uninspiring, Harald Bratbaakk was expected to be the star, and at £2.3m he was an expensive buy.
