He was an emergency striker at Groningen.

I think I read somewhere or heard he started out as a striker as a youth before moving back. If we were chasing a game or whatever it would definately be an option, but he's our best centre half by an absolute mile so we need him playing there. I'd fear for our defence without him in it.

I don't know how long his suspension is, he has served one match already, for the home game against Legia.

Aye, he got a straight red so will miss the first leg too.

*, mate, who are you supporting here :smiley-laughing002:?

Bit * for you that one of your teams has to go out, though I suppose it guarantees one of your teams being in the groups :smiley-laughing002:. Tough one!

Not surprised to be honest. I think he could even play in midfield.

Ahh Back at Paradise, it feels like an age since i was last there.

Parkhead is our fort and i hope we make Maribor see and feel this from the off.
First and Foremost though, We can not lose, as much as i want us to go out and play all attacking football, we are vulnerable on the counter. As long as we are in with a good shot over there i feel we can get ourselves into the group stages.

ok , it seems he started as a forward and has been used as an emergency striker .. which is a good thing for us. We have lustig, matthews, izzy, fischer and the loan signing denayar... sure there is another youngster as well (not twardzik).

No doubt VVD is crucial to our defence but he may be injured or suspended so maybe playing him up front is something that could be tried in a game with not so much at stake.

it would sure confuse the opposition and might just add something when we are struggling as we did first half against st johnstone... he would certainly provide the height and he has got some pace.

responses to my post surprised me ... thought i would be asked to lay off the beer/ smoke/ pills / glue. ...

hopefully a wildcard signing before the deadline will see us add a bit of quality up front though no one immediately comes to mind... that * sevco lot bagged the two best experienced strikers in the country :54:

I've always wanted to give him a chance in midfield. The odd game where we're 3 up early or something like that, like * it Virgil, we'll let you off the leash.

A big part of his game though is driving forward with the ball, once he gets going he's almost impossible to stop and playing at the back just gives him a bit more room to get going. He's just so good at the back it's hard to move him out of there.

CAS hearing the case on Monday now. Getting * off with these fascists now. I suppose it's to be expected, but as the law is in black and white and not open to interpretation in any way, I can't see how any Court will side with Legia.

I think there should be a criteria for entering the Champions League.

The manager or coach should have completed at least one full domestic season.
