Balde

Discussion in 'Celtic Chat' started by Smithmeister, Sep 1, 2007.

  1. Ahhh right, Smarties for me better packaging!

Ok,ok he will stick to his contract and see it out(which is 2 years by ra way) fair enough. What professional though has no interest in playing 1st team football? Surely if that is your living, playing football is all that you want to do not just train? S'pose only B Balde can answer that one.

BBC News - Balde drops Celtic contract claim

Former Celtic defender Bobo Balde has withdrawn claims that the club breached his contract.

I'm not surprised. Proves that in the end, he was a complete leech with no interest in progressing his career. I for one will never welcome him back to Parkhead for any occasion. Once a decent player turned into a very greedy mercenary. :38:

Didnt hear that, that just makes it even worse!!

He definitely was staying at Celtic to put off filing for bankruptcy so.

All those excuses not to move, all those filing complaints against Celtic over fines for discipline were not for want of staying at Celtic as he put it but to bail him out financially...

I think he got declared bankrupt because he refused or didn't pay a bill....don't think he is penniless

He could have bowed out of Celtic years before he did, he would have been held in such high regard, up there with modern favorites like Hartson and Sutton. Instead he decided to live like a parasite on undeserved money and slowly destroy his relationship with the fans (some of whom, inexplicably still like him and say the board are in the wrong)

  12. I was sure the two of them were in Carstairs though.

    Bad crack Baldegate though.

I have some sympathy with Bobo though. In Strachan's first season in charge Bobo was a mainstay in the team and we won the league that year. By the start of the following season he was being made to train with the youth players and had been dumped unceremoniously on his *.

That was a poor way to treat a player who had played well for us for 4 years up to that point.

The thing to remember during his time at the club was that he always made himself available for selection... He may have shown no ambition to further his career while staying to pick up the wages but he'd have pulled on the hoops and given his all if required..
Glad the whole thing is dropped now as it would have soured things further..

Strachan had a mandate to build a team without the high earners, that came from Lawwell. He was made train with the youth squad because of the insults he made to Lawwell and McGrain. Whatever about insulting Lawwell, to insult McGrain deserved the punishment.

The club got rid of Agathe, Thompson, Sutton and Hartson all at the correct time, but held onto Lennon. I've no doubt that we were getting rid of Balde at the right time. He didnt fit into the system that Strachan wanted to use so he should have went. He broke all sorts of promises to no go to clubs that were willing to pay near the wages at Celtic.

Yea, after he was told to train with the reserves, he questioned whether McGrain (assistant to reserve team manager Willie McStay at the time) was qualified enough to train him, Strachan lost the plot when he heard about the remarks made to McGrain and made him train with the youth squad.

Agree he should have left when Birmingham city came in for him. I believe they matched his contract aswell.

But that doesnt disguise the fact that either WGS or PL tried to force him out of the club. He was a good servant to the club under MON and i wont forget that.

This should be put to bed as its yesterdays news. I wish him well. Bobo YNWA

Bobo Balde, one of our most over-rated Central Defenders ever IMO.

Is there any official information to back up the claims with regards to him making insults to McGrain and also with regards to him being/going bankrupt? or is it gossip?

Sounds interesting, would like to find this out.
