We are going to look a right bunch of fuds bringing sammy back after letting him go.

Take these wages and spend it on a defender....it wasn't lack of goals that put us out and back in again it was losing 6 and could have been 9 at the other end of the team.

I'm pretty sure he's had offers from clubs offering him £25k or more but rejected them tbf.

So, thus far we've heard it said that he was on around £15,000 per week with us, yet now we're hearing he's been offered what he was apparently wanting from us elsewhere and has decided to remain without a club than take up any of those offers?

    Upgrade? :56:

Who is an upgrade on Samaras, so far we've downgraded on him with Thumb, Stokesy and co playing regularly. We need a big game performer and Sammy is the man.

Better than what we have, and because he's my personal favourite player of the last five years I'd love it. I forced myself to move on when he left though, so it would be weird seeing him back already.

...then disappears for the rest of the season, and even in the big games, when he's not scoring wonder headers, he's losing the ball in wide areas and leaving us open to counter attacks against Europe's best players.

    Wonderful.

Since Deila plays Griffiths wide I'm not sure he would suddenly thrust Sammy up top, at least in the league but could see it in Europe.

I would bring him back for the simple fact that we don't look the same team without him. Samaras was possibly the only player in the first 11 who could do something different, create something from nothing. Yeah he was inconsistent but I'd rather have a guy who on his day can turn a game than consistent mediocrity. Last year he was responsible for two of the goals against Karagandy, we never looked like scoring against Legia so I'm sure he could have made a difference.

If he does what he can do and has done consistently in Europe then that's good enough for me. Perhaps maybe we shouldn't just be looking to him to whole time like we did under Lenny and just use him as a target man/back to goal type player under Deila because I've no doubt Deila will make sure we're not just looking for Sammy to do everything.

Thing is though, he v rarely acted like a conventional target-man. He was more of an inside-forward: driving at his man from out wide, cutting inside, etc. Even when played centrally, he'd drift wide and look to do that, because that's his thing. For me, the only time he really functioned as a target-man was at set pieces. I know he was also a good out-ball option for clearances, long crosses, etc, but after a while (in Europe anyway) teams figured this out and started to double up on him in those situations.

While I agree that Lenny relied on him too much, I don't believe he has the game to play Deila's (perceived) way. He doesn't have the positional nous to be a target-man, and doesn't have the ball-retention skills to be an inside-forward/winger, imo. For me, part of the reason Lenny built his whole attack around him is he kind of had to: Sammy's limitations mean it's either 'the Samaras show' or he goes missing completely.

I loved Sammy when he was here: excellent attitude and personality, and I honestly wish we'd more people like him at the club. Plus, he did obviously do us a great job in certain ways and I'll always appreciate him for that, but I honestly don't think he'd suit Deila's style. All in, I wouldn't have him back.

25k a week is a bargain for someone who has performed as well as he has in the qualifiers .

I would take Sammy back. He would have only effectively gone on an extended holiday from the World Cup and came back to the team he knows better than any other and a team that knows him better than any other.

He loves Celtic and should be allowed to continue playing.

We've saves about 8 weeks worth of his wages already,
so there's £200,000 in the tin, so his first 2 months back are free:86:

I want him back. You know what your getting. Not the time to take the chance on a 25k flop. He could probably demand a bit more elsewhere so he is not being greedy either.

Has anyone got any decent links suggesting he is definitely coming back or is this just guess work?

On a one year deal aye. Someone to come in and walk straight into the team. Surely that guy would be Samaras? We all know it's no' happening. Shame really, the big man had his moments.
