The Ronny Deila Thread

Discussion in 'Ex Players' started by Glasgow_Bhoy88, Jun 6, 2014.

  1. I honestly couldn't give you a name of who I would want to replace Ronny either now or at the end of the season
Lawwell will want to do something on the cheap so either Coyle, Mjalby or John Collins will get the job

  2. It is not unreasonable but mental. It would be mental letting this clown carry on after January and run the very real risk he could wreck our season and probably make the next man's job even harder.

  3. I didn't see todays game, but based on every other game the football on display is * to watch so when we lose Deila is criticised twice as bad, which I would say is fair.

We were genuinely entertaining after January last season but since then it has been absolutely dire.

  4. That isn't what you said though, is it? You didn't mention that sacking him would be perfectly reasonable just not right now.

Replacing him at the end of the season would practically guarantee we give ourselves as small a chance as possible to qualify for the CL next year. It would give the new manager a matter of weeks to work with a group of players who have just finished bottom of their Europa league group. I couldn't be confident of anyone being capable of transforming them into a CL level side in such a short period of time.

  5. Do you not think it's slightly different for us, with our most important games coming in the summer?

  6. I mean the Champions league qualifiers..

  7. Out of curiosity, why does he deserve another CL shot?

I'm mixed on this one, but I'm not sure I'd say he 'deserved' it. To deserve something usually means you've shown signs that you can do it. He's not.

  8. Look, if the board announced tomorrow that we were offloading Deila and replacing him with Brendan Rodgers or another candidate of similar quality I'd be fully supportive of that move.

At the moment I don't see anyone who could feasibly be considered a realistic target, do you? If Deila was sacked tomorrow the chances are we'd end up with another unknown and/or untested manager of a similar standing to Ronny, so why bother at this juncture?

As I said, he's still in all domestic competitions, so unless there's a real standout candidate who's last name isn't Stubbs is available and willing to come here then I don't see the point in removing him simply for the sake of it.

  9. Again, if the board have identified someone of higher calibre that is available and willing to come to our club right now then I'm open to the idea of replacing him.

I've heard not a whisper to that effect though, and I've seen no outstanding candidate out there that fits the above criteria in my opinion.

Sacking him just for the sake of it would be stupid.

  10. I honestly don't see how he deserves it tbh and he is not short of giving the fans ammo to jump on his back.

But we wouldn't be doing that would we ? We would be removing a manager who has palpably failed in his remit. He has cost the club £40 Million already. Do you want to run the risk of Deila bankrupting Celtic ?
We have all the evidence we need to see Deila is not the man to take us forward. The argument for waiting for summer is both immaterial and irrelevant.

  11. An honest mistake away from a Treble in his first season and removing his first qualifying campaign which I personally can't hold him responsible for losing with someone else's team and a fortnight in the job he has failed once, this season.

I think he deserves another chance. Malmo wasn't good enough but he qualified to the last 16 last year, he has shown on occasion he's got the ability to manage Celtic to victories in Europe.

  12. I think we disagree entirely on the calibre of candidate we can attract. I refuse to believe that the likes of Moyes would refuse us point blank, and that they wouldn't be sorely tempted if we put the right offer in the table.

You're making the mistake of assuming that a manager of a "similar standing to Ronny" is a manager of similar abilities, management style, philosophies and ideas to Deila. There will be plenty of managers out there who will be of simile standing to him that would do a great job here in all likelihood. Because we got it wrong with deila isn't a reason not to try again, is it?

  13. Honestly don't understand this mental to sack him now chat. He's massively under performed in Europe. It's now what, 11 Europa League games without a win. :icon_mrgreen: To me thats sack worthy regardless of what he's achieving domestically. But the fact is he isn't even masking European performances by doing well domestically. Being 1 point ahead of a poor Aberdeen side at xmas is massively under performing. We're showing absolutely no signs of progress. We've played terrible football all season.

Should we ignore all that because he didn't get knocked out of the LC by Raith or Hearts? :smiley-laughing002: That's essentially what the folk who are defending Ronny with treble talk are saying. As at this point, any prem team still in the league cup is on for the treble ffs :icon_mrgreen:

  14. This " We wont get anyone better so we should just stick with a bad manager " is naive ,defeatist and embarassing from Celtic fans .

  15. Is that nervous smiling and giggling? :97:

    :fear:

  16. The argument isn't waiting for the summer, it's waiting until someone of a higher quality becomes available and is willing to come to us under the conditions we operate within in this day & age.

I say the summer because by & large that's usually when the candidate pool is deeper, but if someone who fits the criteria I mention is available now then by all means.

  17. There's many areas we need to see drastic improvements asap. I can imagine Ronny is fully aware of them and will be working on them.

Spoiled we all have become. People want players and managers sacked after abysmal perfomances, sometimes even after few mistakes. Sometimes bad spells happen.

I'm willing to give him a chance till the end of the season and see if he manages to win 2 trophies. Sacking him just now - being 1st - would be criminally insane.

Don' forget the huns are gonna be back next season too. We still have 6 months to recover from the past few weeks/months and build something big for next season.

  18. I genuinely don't think these sort of comments do anything to support Ronnys cause.

If people want to support him and put forward reasons why he should be supported then fair enough, however the idea it is only the usual suspects that want a change is no longer sustainable.

  19. I think his performance in the first season was enough to get him a chance this season, but surely whether he deserves a chance or not next season should be based on this season's performance, which has been very poor?

Also even in his first season we weren't that good in Europe. Decent for a first season but no more than that..
