A post from Random Review in another thread got me thinking, what is my earliest World Cup memory?

Was only 5 in '74 so cant remember anything about that year but can remember everything about '78. The Argentina supporters ripping up their tickets to create a mass of confetti pouring down from the stands, first time I'd seen this, it looked amazing. Scotlands defeat to Peru..the draw against Iran......then we go and beat a class act like Holland...wee Archies goal. :notworthy:notworthy. Willie Johnstone being sent home after testing positive to a banned substance.....Scotland fans singing "We want our money back". Perms....hundreds of them. Argentina and Mario Kempes lifting the trophy after a great final against Holland.

    Over to you lads.

My earliest World Cup memories are from Spain '82. The two memories that stick out most are Bryan Robson scoring in the 1st minute against France and David Narey's toepoke against Brazil to put Scotland 1-0 up. Silly move really, it just made Brazil mad and they thrashed Scotland 4-1. :smiley-laughing002:

One of those two is my earliest World Cup memory. I can't remember which happened first though.

And of course who could forget this goal celebration. Italian passion at it's finest............

I vaguely remember it. I definitely watched that match on the telly.

Can you imagine the outrage if a goalkeeper did that now? You couldn't even call what Schumacher did a challenge, it was a pure assault.

I have a vague recollection of my Dad laughing in contempt outside a chippy upon hearing England had taken off Charlton when 2-0 up against West Germany, and then losing 2-3 in the quarter final in 70.......but prior to that, im afraid i remember Banks's save against Pele, and the Jairzinho goal that beat England.
