Overall it's a great result and one that I definitely would have taken. To be fair I thought Spartak were a good passing team and shouldn't be completely written off for the return leg, but we could have won the game easily and had the tie wrapped up were it now for the S. Brown sitter and the M. Brown paper hand. It was such a pour goal to concede defensively, not just with Brown but also Kennedy standing in no mans land, Wilson too far off his man and to a lesser extent Naka not closing him down.
Also we could easily have scored in the second half when Kennedy put the header wide, big jan was right next to him any sort of touch and it was in, I was * punching the wall.
MOTM was for me McDonald, thought he was immense, also thought McManus was brilliant. Most of the team played well and we will continue to improve in next few weeks. There's alot of positives to take from the game, looking forward to * up these russian * in next leg.

Excellent result, let's have at it in CP and show them how to play real football without flooding the field or some * like that to give us the cheap advantage. HAIL HAIL!!

Good game. Spartak are clearly technically better than us at the moment (but this was only our 3rd game) but our tactics were great and some great performances.

Brown- Apart perhaps from the goal was very safe and cool keeper that I trust 7
    Wilson-excellent defensively 7
Naylor-shaky but his opponent was very good 5
    Mick-a rock 7
    JFK- a rock 7
    Brown-superb effort all over park-8
    Hartley-clever game-8
    Donati-decent-6.5
    Naka-excellent effort all over park-8
McDonald-superb Celtic competitive debut. looks a very good player-9
    JVOH-solid-6.5

I thought JVOH looked like he was wearing lead boots a lot of the game, his reactions seemed slow and lumbersome, maybe he is still carrying that injury? Wanmadtim

Brown 5 - At fault for goal and handling could be better
Wilson 7 - Improved performance had good game
Naylor 6 - Still not at his best but was decent enough
McManus 8 - Great defensive performance , cleared everything
Kennedy 7 - Wasn't too bad , easily turned at offside goal . Poor in air
Nakamura - 7 Kept possession well and brought others into play
Brown 7 - Could have won it in the end but was good European début
Donati 5 - Doesn't get involved enough . Game passed him by
Hartley 9 - Best performance . Goal and energy were priceless tonight
Hesselink 6 - Sluggish slow and clearly not at his best
McDonald 9 - Looks like he will be a great signing . Terrific debut

I'd say that was a fair shout.
You're right about Massimo too. I think he looks overawed sometimes.

I mostly agree with your ratings Keloti except maybe Naka. Thought he was quite poor to be honest, gave the ball away a few to many times for me.

My confidence in Mark Brown is starting to waver, sometimes he looks as if he is capable of bad mistakes although he did have some good takes and blocks tonight.

My confidence in Hartley, on the other hand, is starting to grow. He's looking much more lively this season than he did last, i'm not in his fan club yet but he definitely is improving. Some goal.

Wee McDonald looks * hot, on tonights performance am afraid Kenny will have to wait even longer for a run, which is a shame because he played well at the weekend.

Saying that, JVOH is starting to look ordinary. He's done next to * all so far this season and has just looked a bit pedestrian. Maybe Kenny will get that run after all.

Big Mick was immense tonight, him and JFK have the makings of a partnership that could be vital to us for years. Some of the clearences and block the night we're class, although the marking on one or two occasions was suspect (maybe even very suspect). Not to mention they seem to get done quite a bit in the air. Nevertheless, i think these things will be worked on and their understanding of each others games and the game in general will get better very quickly.

Great result tonight bhoys, if we can rise to the occasion in the home leg, with a full Paradise, we will blow this mob away because we are capable of some stunning football. HAIL HAIL!! :celt_2: :shamrock:

Brown 5 - how can he get a 7 when he was the biggest factor in us conceding the only goal we conceded? also dropped simple catches a few times
Wilson 7 - quite a good game but was partially at fault for the spartak goal
Naylor 5 - very shaky in everything he was good at last season, defending, distribution, composure on the ball, crossing
    McManus 8 - in a word: excellent
Kennedy 6 - a mixed performance, some good interventions etc but poor at times, was turned like stan varga for their disallowed goal
Nakamura 7 - a few misplaced passes but got up and down the pitch well and was a good outlet for keeping the ball
Donati 6 - a bit anonymous at times but made some good tackles and passes
Brown 6 - anonymous like donati and missed an absolute sitter. still signs theres a great player in there somewhere, but not performing to his full capabilities
Hartley 7 - didn't play as well as some people are saying, but was very competent and WHAT A * HEADER. he's been steadily improving from * to ok to good now, so it's encouraging
VOH - 7 - won his fair share of headers
McDonals 9 - a great outlet, set up the goal, clever runs and both strong and skilful on the ball

He was the only person winning the ball when we played it long. He provided a vital option to be able to play it up the park quickly when the midfield was congested. Noone else in the squad could have done his basic job as a target man.

yeah i agree, though feel the big man has never been paired with a partner that compliments him... until tonight! ie think we will now see the best off jvoh because people keep comparing him with chocolate button (chris sutton), but people forget he had "the king" AND hartson partnering him. YOU AND I COULD LOOK GOOD WITH THEM!!!

I wouldn't have called Killen a target man but I haven't seen that much of him so don't really know.

I'm sorry to say but the 2 CBs won nothing in the air tonight and thats a worrying fact for 2 guys that are as tall as that

Don't know if anyone's mentioned it but so much for the hostile russian atmosphere, everyone who can better make their way to Parkhead though for the return. Not over yet but we can definitly help the team reach the last 16

We should finish the job in 2 weeks. We will be fitter than we were today and Boruc will be back in goal. Also being back at Celtic Park on real grass will obviously help us.But a word of warning.Spartak look a very fast team and their wingers will be able to dribble much better than today on real grass. We could get destroyed down the flanks.

    * sake you!
We played the top russian team mid season, top of the league, in their own ground, on plasic and in 90 degrees. 1-1 the score and if i'm not too ashamed to say a wee bit gutted by that. i think we could maybe deserve a better scoreline. but after all that you are looking negativly at the return leg???

    KEEP THE FAITH WEE MAN

that was a great away performance and that was reserved, we are leading the tie as it stands, they need to come out and play at CP to have a chance...

WE WILL GET THROUGH THAT WAS THEIR BEST CHANCE:50:
