They must have seen the CCTV already, that will tell all that needs to be known..
It must have been the first thing they did,why there's no news is very odd..

All I can think is that there close and broadcasting anything might * up there next move..

Police Scotland have said they believe there was a "potential sighting" of missing three-year-old Mikaeel Kular on Thursday morning.

Members of the public have reported seeing a young boy alone at about 08:30 in West Pilton Gardens, close to Mikaeel's Edinburgh home.

Hundreds of volunteers have joined the search for the missing boy.

Mikaeel has not been seen since being put to bed at his home in Ferry Gait Crescent on Wednesday night.

His mother, named locally as Rosdeep Kular, 33, put him to bed at about 21:00.

Supt Liz McAinsh of Police Scotland has been speaking about the possible sighting.

She said CCTV footage had confirmed the time of the sighting, but could not confirm the identity of the child.

Supt McAinsh said: "Since Mikaeel was reported missing, we have been contacted by a number of people with information which we have been working to assess and respond to.

"Members of the public have come forward to report seeing a boy walking in the vicinity of West Pilton Gardens at 8:30am yesterday.

"The witnesses were in a vehicle driving down West Pilton Gardens at the time they saw the boy. They described seeing a small boy on the right hand side pavement running towards the junction with West Pilton Park.

"They noticed him because he was small in build and alone at the time.

"They said he matched the description given of Mikaeel although they also reported the child they saw was wearing a cap or hat."

Supt McAinsh said it was her understanding that Mikaeel did not like wearing a hat, and no cap or hat is thought to be missing from his home.

A police helicopter, sniffer dogs, coastguard and lifeboat teams have been involved in the ongoing search.

Officers said they were now deeply concerned for Mikaeel.

Supt McAinsh added: "We would ask that anyone who also saw this child contact us as a matter of urgency.

"We need to confirm if this was Mikaeel or if it was another child.

"If it is your child who was out at this time and in this location, we want to hear from you so we can eliminate this line of inquiry as swiftly as possible."

Responding to a police plea for help, hundreds of people turned up at the North Neighbourhood Centre in West Pilton Gardens on Friday morning to assist with efforts to find the boy.

They were briefed on where and how they should search, so that all efforts were co-ordinated and no area missed.

Insp David Happs addressed the crowds gathered outside the community centre.

He said: "It is important to us that you are supplementing the search and complementing what we are doing. The community spirit here has been fantastic.

"The search today is going to continue along the Silverknowes/Cramond foreshore area. Search advisers will deploy you in groups to ensure that we get a systematic and thorough search of that area done today, just so we have got confidence that has been covered."

The charity Missing People will be showing the three-year-old's face on big screens in public places such as railway stations.

Police urged anyone with information to telephone the 0300 200 0200 number and asked local residents to check their gardens, sheds, parks and lock-ups.

    From the BBC News app.

Looks like hes could have went out on his own. Hope to * he found safe.

I hate these potential sightings,* nut nuts and oddballs start trying to be important and throw police off track..

Let's hope it is a breakthrough though..

If he did that's pretty remarkable. One of the main uses of security doors is to prevent exactly this kind of thing from happening. Either it was faulty or the manufacturers are going to have to have a rethink.

More importantly that news is quite encouraging. A potential sighting means the lad must have fit the description, what he was wearing etc. Hopefully means he'll be found sooner rather than later, although whoever seen him should have * checked!

The intial sighting was a person passing by in a car. A glimpse of a kid for maybe a few seconds? He wasn't reported missing at that point. They could have just assumed that the parent was near by.

If i see a kid running around a supermarket himself, i don't automatically think "he must have left his house alone and went a wander, alert the authorities". I think "his parents must be about".

It would be different if they knew he was missing at the time.

24hrs on and no more sightings. Worrying.

No need for apologies. :50: I think people are also a bit apprehensive to approach random children as well.

    True actually..

Even if some random joe was doing a good deed and my boy had went ahead in a shop abit and I saw him reach down to ask him where we were I'd still go straight on the defensive and automatically think the worst wrongly..
    Take no chances..

Strange press conference there. Police saying that there is a chance of criminality. Very vague with details on the room he slept in, the father, CCTV. They were asked if he could be out of the country and they said "we can't go in to that". Sky alluding to the fact that there is more to it - press briefed off the record?

I feel really guilty about being this suspicious but.......

He wasn't at nursery or school since xmas because he had a cold/chest infection so they hadn't seen him since. He was apparently in a room by himself because he was ill .......so my question is if he was so unwell wouldn't he be checked again before midnight? If you have a sick kid on his own in a room wouldn't you be keeping a close eye on them? It's also really is odd the way they keep dodging questions about the dad as you only ever hear them referring to his mum.

It's like the police have a fair idea what's happened but don't want to compromise the investigation.

Glad someone said it before I did, 100% agree with you.

the whole thing (and I hope to * im wrong) stinks of a repeat of the madeline mccann case. It appears something terrible has happened and this is a cover up story, again i hope im wrong.

Would be one smart kid to get up, get dressed, recognise its cold outside and put a jacket on before leaving and exit the house quietly enough not to distrub anyone in the house.

either way I hope the little man is found, im wrong and the motheris reunited with her son.

    Tragic.

I'm around 95% sure now that this isn't an innocent case of a child running off, too much doesn't add up. Really hope I'm wrong.

    agree with this.
also the wee boy put on his hat and gloves and open his front door, closed it quietly and also opened 2 security doors before leaving the flats, and these security doors are heavy. plus security cameras focusing on the front door revealed nothing ????

Its the flat entrance door I dont get. I live in a modern flat with secure entry. To exit, I need to turn a * and pull the door at the same time. I struggle when I take the bin out and Im carrying a heavy bag. Plus Ive seen my 4yo nephew struggle to push/pull open the fire doors.

So, Im to believe a 3 year old pressed a button to release the door and then pull open the door before the automatic lock clicked. Thats after he unlocked the front door of his flat (lock and chain??) and pushed open fire doors. Kid must be strong and a genius.

TBH i think there is something fishy about this.
