    According to the Annual Survey Of Hours & Earnings the following are the best paid jobs on average in the UK this year;

I was surprised to see medical practitioners ranked higher than lawyers to be honest.

Do we have any of the above on TC? :icon_mrgreen:

Didn't realise Senior police officers were paid as much.

Whoops 90th percentile 10% on about £131,000 of medical practitioners, yet nurses get paid pennies and get all the *!

I do wonder how accurate that is. How can they find out people's salaries?

You keep hearing stories about how much many individuals make, so I thought quite a few would be higher on average.

They are lumping a lot of different jobs into single categories though.

It'll simply be industry averages, which doesn't really count for too much to be honest.

Not really, they get like £25k. For what they do and have to put up with it's really not a lot.

My mum and dad are both psychiatric nurses and 25k is plenty to provide for yourself.

Agree they put up with a lot of * though, people attacking you, dealing with dead bodies and helping people wash and do the toilet. Should definately get paid more.

Nurses in the NHS are paid according to bands, theres varying degrees of pay for your 'standard nurse'.

My colleagues in Aberdeen can make over £60k a year very easily

If I was younger I might have went down this road.

It is the place to be if you have a techinical background and want to earn good money.

Jobs and money are very easy to come by.

My ex works in the Gynaecology theatre. She was getting £30k for her 4x10 hour day shift week. No shift allowance as on days and no weekend work. 4 days variable over 5 Mon-Fri.

I'm not going to knock nurses, but knowing what her and her nurse friends got away with, and what I've seen when in hospital, I'm not always too sure what they have to put up with?

Normally the nurses are very nice and the wards very relaxed and easy going.

I guess some have it easy and some are in the bad bits. Hopefully the ones with the harder jobs are rewarded.

A decent wage for all the abuse they receive and * hours they have to do? Not a chance they are paid enough, in comparison to people such as doctors. Ever been to an A&E department late at night and at weekends? I wouldn't work there for what they're paid.

Casualty(A&E), district and psychiatric nurses have it bad - casualty gets all the jakes in who have OD'd or are still drunk, and can be violent, some of the A&Es in Scotland have a ridiculous police presence there 24/7. District nurses are ridiculously understaffed and overworked and have a terrible patient:nurse ratio within their district, I don't know the ins and outs of psychiatric nursing but I'd imagine it would be very draining having to deal with people with extreme mental problems.

Anyhow, the nurses I know get 22-30k depending on experience, more senior ones can get up to 35k I think. I don't think that they are overpaid one bit.

This. My girlfriend is a domestic and she said the cheek that nurses give other staff (especially the older nurses), is disgusting. They are quite rude to patients aswell. Not to mention they get order chinese food in to the ward office, allowing the delivery driver to walk in (no changing of uniform or anything), which can contaminate the entire ward.

That's quite a bit above the average graduate starting salary, what do you do at college?
