Ahh the it happened before a lot of us were born argument.

So we shouldn't remember the 1798 patriots, the 1916 heroes. Or sing about any events from Irish history.

How does it differ from later tragedies that came about as a result of British policy in Ireland?

Furthermore, Lawwell can't just accuse the fans of maintaining Celtic's solidarity with certain, synonymous struggles. Certain employees of the club also feel it is a significant part of club's identity i.e. Anthony Stokes.

Some of the revisionists will have you believe that a rebel song had never been sung in Celtic Park pre-2006.

I don't understand how it is legal for a band like the Wolfe Tones to come to Scotland and play their songs but if a football fan sings the same songs they can be arrested. Either rebel songs are illegal in general or they're not. And if they aren't, which they aren't, there is no problem with singing them at matches. No matter how much Huns and handwringers want to think otherwise.

You have to be careful using terms like "the club's identity". To some people the club's identity stops at "open to all, non-political, non-Irish, #CelticNorwichFamily, best fans in the world, Bhoys & Ghirls, #hailhail".

Interesting debate that one, that is a political statement in itself, all political things are now to be banned at the club according to Lawwell. Where does he sit with that?

Also does making our team wear a poppy not fall into the political category?

I'm not bringing up the poppy situation again, just trying to make a point

Don't you see that your point supports mine? If political fans are being purged, how far does this policy go?

Do you release Anthony Stokes because of his affiliations with republicanism? Do you oust Nir Biton for having completed his year's service with the IDF?

Peter Lawwell doesn't have the authority to decide what Celtic is and isn't.
