Both are events, caused by Britain, in Ireland?

They are songs commemorating war. The famine was a humanitarian disaster.

And the other side are full of "shame on our club", "embarrassment", "take your politics elsewhere"...

Sitting on the fence indeed.

Subjectively An gorta mor is a well documented genocide programme carried out by the British empire, a very political subject and case of complete dehumanisation and ethnic cleansing.

It also relates to our club in remembrance.

No, he's falsely represented the Celtic support.

The Famine was a passive genocide.

a dont even care anyway its all became point scoring *

the real reason lawwell focused on the banner is because he got humped 3-0 from ac milan in a group which we could of made it out of, and everyone posting lawwell out are the same to congratulate him for having a great business plan while other clubs sink into liquidation

I don't think any Celtic fan really dislikes the idea of republicanism but if they aren't Irish, aren't political, and aren't connected in any way to the wars and struggles sung about, then they might simply object to people doing stuff that gets the club in trouble.

Bringing trouble by singing about stuff that happened before a lot of us were born isn't going to appeal to a lot of people

Holygoalie aside, i take it the voters who said yes are all fairly young. Not surprised by this.

The famine was a result of British government policy in Ireland.

Famine wasn't a disaster, it was a genocide.

I'm glad to see that several other uses have repudiated the notion that the Irish Famine was anything other than a genocide.

Been a long time reader of this board hardly ever bother posting, mainly because I can't be arsed.

However I had to come on to say your responses to people you don't agree with (on more than one thread I may add) are pathetic.
The whole IRA thing is embarrasing and needs to be punted out the door sharpish.

I'm a GAA man first and foremost but have followed Celtic since I was 8, I love the link between Ireland and the club but this IRA stuff has become boring.

Why anyone thinks this crap should still be associated with our club is beyond me, that's if I'm allowed to have an opinion on it that you don't agree with

I agree with everything you've said but the British occupation of Ireland is ongoing. Those songs are still relevant to many.

I've not said otherwise, it was still a humanitarian disaster.

I'm not sure anybody feels that the IRA should specifically be part of Celtic's identity. What we're saying is that Celtic isn't merely a football franchise - as Peter Lawwell would attempt to have the public believe.
