    Back to the match then.

Fantastic to see VVD score....not once but twice....brilliant stuff from the big man....he's been some buy.

Super Joe too....good to see him hitting the net also.

I never managed to see it but from reading posts on here it seems that Izzy had a belter of a game....great hopefully he will return to the form that won him POTY accolades.

Over all seemed like a good performance, definitely a lift after the game and carry on mid week....hopefully we can keep up the momentum.

Good win, clever system, 4 goals. We had everything today, guts, determination, good movement and some fantastic delivery into the box. It was like watching a different team today and the football was very entertaining to watch. This team deserves a run of games.

No Commons and no Samaras, the ball flows a lot faster and guys like Brown and Ledley get to play attacking football.

Ledley was like a completely different player, Biton was very composed, Izzy makes 'em dizzy and Fisher's got that perfect delivery from the right. Something we've maybe missed from time to time.

As much as Lenny took pelters for the game in Amsterdam, he deserves a round of applause for pulling out a different system, with the right balance, power, pace and good technique.

Shame Pukki never got on the score sheet but he just needs more game time

Caught bits of it in work. I'll be honest didn't fancy the lineup toDay but four goal, four headers I'm sure.
Joe was unlucky not to get his hat-trick.

pukki needs one to go in off his *! his goal bound shot that hit ledley sums up the time he is having just now

I'd have Commons & Samaras in the stands the weekend before every European game.

Did you see how gutted Ledley was about that? Couldn't stop apologising.

i agree with you 100% mate, pukki is a horrible forward. waste of money, as we were crying out for a out and out goal scorer, when hooper left. and because the board were to tight to go for finbogasson we got stuck with pukki:smiley-laughing002: its like paying for a 5 star hotel and getting stuck with a 2 star.

hopefullly in January we buy someone good, then he might work well with a real striker to partner with. like a JVOH type player

Thoroughly enjoyed that today, especially second half.

We've been guilty of being too conservative in the league this season with regards to bodies getting forward so it was nice to see some of the CM's getting licence to go forward.

I said at half time that we were flooding their box every time we shuttled it wide and if the delivery was better we would score more, and so it turned out.

Van Dijk was colossal yet again, you have to hope he is a Henrik type player or we could see the back of him in the next year because he is that good.

So happy to see Ledley getting on the scoresheet as well because he has been in for some unfair criticism lately imo. I would seriously let him off the leash and tell him to go forward when he feels like it and he will get us goals.

Special mentions for Broony and Fisher as well, both had great games.

Izzy though, how good is it to have him in this kind of form? I've always defended him but even I can see he has turned it up a notch in the last month or two and he is showing the form he displayed in his first season, having him and Ledley back firing on all cylinders will really energise our left hand side.

all in all a great game, hopefully we can kick on from here and start putting in some dominant performances.

I Thought we played very well today, Crisp passing into feet, the movement from back to middle was quick and direct.
I think VVD was yet again epic he just saunters through matches.
Ledley and Mulgrew there range of passing at times was a joy to behold especially for 1 of the goals the switch to izzy and his final ball was overall good today 2 assists from him.
The strikers were left wanting today again there needs to be better movment up front and less running the channels.
Pukki just looks like he is lacking confidence but goals will come if he keeps the heed up.
Overall good professional display with a bit of character and style.
MOTM VVD or Izzy for me :icon_mrgreen:

I don't think it's any surprise that Izzy plays better when Ledley is on the pitch. Was even better today because we had Charlie Mulgrew there as well. His passing was incredible by the way, how many cross field passes did he hit Izzy with?

The thing about Pukki is he's getting a hard time from the fans, because he's not scoring. But he is however very difficult to play against. If you're a defender he's a worry for you. It keeps the defense on the back foot if you play Pukki. Goals will come in other ways.

Look at the difference in the two games against Ajax. With Pukki the defense is a bit uncertain, Pukki and Forrest close players down in tandem with pace.

Commons plays and we don't have that. Irrespective if Pukki actually wins the ball or scores, he forces a mistake and he shields the ball very well and that makes it difficult to get the ball off him. Basically he's a pest and so is Forrest. They both work hard it doesn't let the defense get up to the halfway line.

This was interesting today because at times we attacked with Broony sneaking into the center forward position like Commons does. But more interestingly, the big guys knew when a cross was about to be delivered and got into the box.

I'd agree about Sammy, but Commons probably needs the games to stay fit.
That's why i was a bit worried about him coming into the Ajax game. Commons maybe needs the games to keep an edge about him.

But it's interesting. They didn't play and we got 4 goals.
It's progression. Finally we rotated the team and it worked. Bring back Commons and Sammy, well maybe it makes it harder for the new guys to get as much of the ball, and less enjoyable for Brown and Ledley because they have to sit in. It's an interesting turn of events, especially the weighted passes from Biton and the delivery from Darnell Fisher.

I didn't want to say it before, but i thought Sammy and Commons were slowing the play down, when we really want this kind of tempo and movement we had today.

i got a sore heid reading this thread, just agree to disagree ffs

    good performance

    different performance

team done well without commons and samaras which is good to note

actually it was more about the team and not about individuals

pukki is a good and clever player he's finding it hard adapting to scottish football at the moment! probably due to the everyone behind the ball stifling tactics so many managers use when they play us
were a victim of our own success i.e. the size of our club against the rest of the teams in scotland, which means they generally sit in against us loads
If we played in a better stronger league there would be much more tooing and frowing to the games as we wouldn't dominate possession as much as we do

we could get a bit fly and try and invite opponents in scotland on to us a bit more ? so we can find space in behind them use more guile in our play the amount of times i have seen pukki hit a shot and it just bounces off a defending player it's like he's trying to penetrate the great wall of china lol

today was more the battering ram approach with high energy/pace intensity and physicality

but pukki will start finding his feet in the scottish scene and scoring soon he is a creative support striker so he isn't gonna be the 30 odd goal a season striker

Sammy slows the game down, Commons moves the ball as soon as possible if they is a runner on. The position Forrest was in today Commons is made for. I want to see that next week.

Aye so do i, but at some point you have to look to the future. Maybe Lenny would be more inclined to take out Pukki and put Commons back in, but i like Pukki and Forrest together more than Commons and Pukki or Commons and Forrest. But it depends on the opposition and i'm sure Commons will come back into the side straight away.
