You clearly have a very defined political viewpoint which will not waiver for a specific situation. I won't waste my time when you're lowering it to a personal level :50:

    A livelihood, for example?

Have you actually used the words "honest" and Tories" in the same sentence, holy * *, thats a first.
Yeah, todays Unions may be run by dodgey self obsessed arseholes but the Tory party is probably one of the most dishonest and corrupt organisations in this country.

Remember Hammer that nobody can make you join a Union. I'm sorry that it has come to this for the workers but I'm sure they would have been happy with the wages they earned and the benefits they received helped by being a member of the Union. I hope they succeed in their fight and this can be resolved to their benefit. Up the Workers!:50:

Yeah I'm sure they have been, the same Union that is going back to INEOS with their tail tucked firmly between their legs tomorrow morning accepting every single term lock, stock and barrel which they turned down on Friday.

What an utter shambles Unite are.

Init, you'd think this were a thread on the Daily Mail forums the way people are goin on. It's not the fault of the workers that Ineos cannae keep their business profitable. You have to pay a wage that is competitive for that industry. You cannae just go "we're no makin money so yous'll all accept less wages and pension aye?" "Aye, that's brilliant big man, we're no fussed that we already make less than people doin the same job at English plants, in fact, we'll just take minimum wage so yez can keep makin money, nae bother!" Get * real.

If you were more aware of the circumstances e.g. you watched Scotland Tonight, you would be aware that the petrochemical plant is under so much pressure due to the competitiveness of the market it's working in. The biggest problem they have is excessive labour costs in comparison with its competitors. It then stands to reason that either the costs are brought into line or the plant is no longer viable, the latter now coming to brutal fruition.

Ineos pay way way over the odds. Many of the guys will never her another job with money anywhere near what they get. Many are paid royally for what they do.

You've said a few times about less wages, they aren't getting their salaries reduced at all. They want to reduce overtime rates. Overtime is not contractual and if the company said nobody was getting any, they would have no argument.

They were also going to be compensated for the losses. Guys were getting upto £15, 000 each.

Why wouldn't you just go somewhere else if you are not happy? These guys get above average salaries and enjoy better pension deals than most. If they think they can earn the same or more somewhere else I would suggest they would go there. The unions have caused their usual commotion to justify the salaries of their leaders and I think it is pretty likely they will end up caving anyway. It is a swindle and as others have said the people I feel sorry for are the guys losing their job who have wanted no part of this action.

So unite will be sensible now, thank * , Just hope its not to late. Hopefully they may have learned a lesson here and not be such a shower of utter dicks in the future, although that's doubtful.

Where did they say they were slashing wages of the workers ? I think you will find it was a pay freeze . Millions of workers have had to do the same lately in the current climate . Why should they be any different ? . You are just making stuff up for your own beliefs try gettingthe facts correct first

Hopefully this has a positive outcome. It seems the union tried to act like billy bigbaws and call Ineos' bluff and failed miserably. I half expect Ineos to tell them to stuff it. I feel for the people who were happy to accept the changes but were over-ruled by their fellow workers and union.

While I never like big companies getting rich at the expense of workers, in this case , a job with reduced conditions is better than no job at all. Lets see how it goes today.

I've read that the union are going to open up talks in a hope the place stays open.

May have realised losing all those jobs isn't worth it really

if the company is wanting to put £300m into a company in this day and age surely a pay freeze for the workers is a small price to pay for this :50:

Acting this way is what their leaders are paid for. The whole thing was a nonsense from the start and achieved nothing other than upsetting a lot of people.

I think Grangemouth will likely be saved and when it is no doubts the union will find some sort of angle to celebrate something as if they achieved anything.

Interesting that all the Union flag wavers are nowhere to be seen now they have scuttled back to those horrible Fat Cat's with their mooching paws out and their tail between their legs....

    Absolute joke.

Actually, no. This is one instance I wish I was wrong and the Union attempting to double bluff INEOS worked. Instead all they have done is jeopardise the livelihood of their members.

They should hang their heads in shame.

2000 sub-contractors laid off so 800 perm staff keep their jobs.
