Well you can see it's a socialist country by its voting habits of the last 30 yrs.

What it becomes depends on the leaders it elects if it votes for independence.

As I mentioned in my post. It needs a strong finance and service industry, along with an education industry, tourism and possibly oil and gas.

Indeed. The British Empire in which Scotland was a willingly participant in. Obviously the masses involved were not true Scots.

Scotland is a left leaning nation. A lot more left than the rest of the UK.

You literally just ignored everything I said and continue to repeat another line. You always say the same things. Scotland did not willingly join the UK. The nobles were bought off by the English and gave the country up despite the fact the Scottish people were firmly against it. There was riots all over the country.

And indeed it is a shame such alleged resistance to not carry on nor stop masses from joining the English death squads.

So you are happy to sell Scottish independence for money. The Commonwealth games is a mockery and insult to the tens of millions butchered.

A true supporter of independence would not support the Commonwealth games and would not let infrastructure bribe them.

How can you be an Irish nationalist and a Unionist? It's completely paradoxical.

The reason for anti-Irish or anti-Catholic sentiment in Scotland is the Union and the British occupation of Ireland. If Scotland gains her independence, there will be no Union or British identity of which to speak. Irish reunification will follow and Unionism, and the anti-Irish and anti-Catholic sentiment which goes hand-in-hand with it, will die out.

No, Scotland was sold to the Union. There was no plebiscite.

It's not "alleged resistance", it happened. Stop being verbose; it makes you look stupid.

I support anything that will destruct the Union. And as such hope true independence is gained for Scotland and the true people of Scotland.

    Agreed.

While my knowledge on Scottish history is limited, i have indeed always wondered why then these riots did not erupt into a full scale war for independence for the Scottish people, there must of been a sizeable element in Scotland minus the nobles that where indeed in favour of this Union.

Ive no doubt there would have been a % of the population in the south of Scotland who would have welcomed it,an area which would have been somewhat Anglisiced by that time anyway. You also have to remember that the 2 countries were at war for the best part of 1000 years, the people probably never had the stomach to fight a country 12 times its size no more.

Like the rebellions of 1715 and 1745 which sought to repeal the Union and restore Scotland's parliament?

Scotland has been fighting for its independence since 1296. It's only in the recent history of our country that armed resistance has ceased, and a democratic process has been adopted.

"The Union of 1707 between Scotland and England was highly unpopular with the vast majority of the population in Scotland."

    From the BBC, no less.

Protestants in Scotland at the time preffered being ruled by protestant(English) monarch. It took centuries and several civil wars for Scotland to convert from a catholic country to a protestant country. Once this was achieved Scottish independence at that time was doomed. The darrien scheme also bankrupt Scotland and was a major factor in the union being formed...http://patriciahysell.wordpress.com/tag/1707-acts-of-union/
