Realistically, in the same situation, how much is Lionel Messi worth to a club?

I would say in the region of £130-140million.

I dont know why Bale is going for so much, it madness. Going by that youd think he was better than Ronaldo but hes actually not even close to as good as Ronaldo in reality.

Ronaldo can play better in more positions, scores and creates more goals, is better in the air and that.

You'd have thought youd have been able to get Bale for at most £55million, he is better than the likes of Ribery, Hazard, Silva, Mata and that who would cost you about £35-40million at the same age as him.

If Bale is worth £94million, then Messi is probably worth £170million. But more realistic prices would be £45million for Bale, £65million for Ronaldo and £80million for Messi.

It's a strange one for me, Gareth Bale at £94m and how much Real get for the raised TV audience, shirt sales, competition winnings etc. they may eventually get a return on that investment.

Messi is ten times the player though, would he just be literally too dear to have any actual worth to a club in monetory terms? Obviously, as a player he is worth whatver the * you want to pay.

Footballer prices are out of control though.

If Commons is worth £350k how much is Downing worth? certainly not £20million. If Wanyama is worth £900k, how much is Rodwell worth? certainly not £15million.

Football (and other sports) is really the only thing where things are bought for either miles under their worth or miles over it and yet nocunt bats an eyelid at it.

Villa for £5million or Carroll for £35million
Larsson for £650k or Flo for £12.5million
Suarez for £23million or Falcao for £60million.

Theres no real fair market value, which is probably why Arsenal and Wenger continually pull out of transfers. Wenger probably has OCD about paying the right price for everything.

    Definitely mate, it's mental.

I actually think he is a player that doesn't have any realistic price.

How much are Madrid goings to recuperate in commercial earnings however? The guy is ugly and is from Wales. In Britain he may be commercially profitable however he ain't no Ronaldo and I fail to see how he can be marketed to the states, South Americans and Asians etc. Perez just playing Daddy Big * again.

Aye he doesnt as he wont be sold. It would probably take about £400million at least for Barca to sell, once the bidding got to those prices they'd probably think they could sign 6/7 world class players and cover their wages for years.

For that kind of money they could go and sign Neuer, Thiago Silva, Hummels, Mata, Bale, Reus and Falcao. So would just be like trading Messi for 7 world class players for free until the end of their careers.

    Eh...... £500 million.

Let's be honest Bale is worth nowhere near that amount of money, in fact I think £50 million would still be a tad pricey for him, I guess the fact that he's the PL's best player, still quite young, is so overhyped and the fact that Spurs rate him so highly have influenced the fee.

How must Ronaldo be feeling, that someone who's barely fit to lace his boots is worth over £10 million more than he is.... and he's won the world player of the year award, 3 PL titles, 1 La Liga, 1 champions league and 1 copa del rey as well as scoring amounts of goals that Bale could only dream of scoring.

It's Real Madrid though, they're willing to pay these prices.

It is not unrealistic to contemplate a £250 million+ bid for Messi from the likes of PSG, City etc...

I don't think Messi will ever leave Barca, for any amount of money to be honest. Certainly not when he is in his prime, he may well go back to South America later in his career, and go back to the team he played with as a kid.

Apparently Anzhi made a bid of somewhere in the £200m range and Barca just rejected it. It would probably take about £400-£500 million for Barca to budge.

It was £250m (the clause price) an they were obligated to accept it and allow Messi to speak with them but....he refused point blank.

Ah yeah, I just thought Barca outright rejected it tbh. If the clause is a billion now I can't see them selling him for anything less than £400 million, especially with the prices in modern football.

Agree - will never happen however. They will be lumbered with him until the end of his contract - not a bad situation though :smiley-laughing002:

Wages will probably continue to inflate as well.

Won’t be long until some clown is getting paid 500k - 1M per week.

Ibra at PSG is on massive wages, with the 50% tax rate.
Not sure exactly, but i think he is near 500k a week to take 250k home, as is written in his contract.
