Surprised at that. Im too young to have watched him, however I always though Laudrup was a great player. In saying that though, when I have saw footage of him, all he does is...run. He just punts the ball into space and runs for it.

Laudrup was outstanding. OK, he didn't stand out so much for Milan but he was excellent with Fiorentina and especially Denmark!

The game that stood out for me was the Champions League final last year, Cole was unbeliveable in that game and also the games against Barca.
I would say and most wouldnt agree, Cole in his prime was better than Lahm.

When the term "overrated" is mentioned in regards to football a lot of people quickly mentioned Lampard and Gerrard.

I think Gerrard is a tad overrated, he's not a technical midfield genius like Scholes, Xavi, Seedorf and Pirlo yet he's constantly put in the same bracket as them. He's had good spells in his career and amazing games in high profile games, just a tad overrated in terms of how good he actually is/was.

I'm not sure if Lampard is overrated, I mean he does what he does extremely well and that's get goals form midfield and he's been doing it for 10 consecutive years.

Cantona is an interesting one, for me he was an absolutely genius and his ability was absolutely phenomenal, the only thing you could say that was wrong with him is that he wasn't a prolific goalscorer.

Beckham, World class poster boy and hyped way beyond his worth. Along with that group of the alleged ''Golden Generation'' of england players he was part of. :87:

    Great shout with Beckham.

Good dead ball delivery, decent workrate (in his prime). But… if he spent less time in front of the mirror and more time on the training park practising dribbling, tackling and heading then he might have been OK.

    * good PR machine though. The big mincing Jessie should lay off sucking the helium as well

That was 11 men against the ball in those games. Defenders will always shine like Matthews did for us against Barca. He doesn't offer near as much as the players I listed. Nowhere near it.

His defending in the EPL over the last few seasons has been pretty dodgy as well actually. Always gets covered up by the MOTD pundits just like their Goalkeeper as well however.

Utter nonsense, Cech often gets slated and English pundits constantly bring up his head injury whenever he puts a foot wrong.

You have a very vivid imagination.

Right this is laughable. Unlike Cantona, Van Nistelrooy is a player who can be judged on goals alone. His linkup play was hugely underrated, but he was the deadliest finisher. You can't seriously call a guy who scored 62 goals in 88 European games overrated and hold any degree of credibility. 75 in 91 for PSV, 150 in 219 for United, 64 in 96 for Real Madrid. Overrated how exactly? Or are you just picking saying random Man United players since that's what the rest of the thread has been?

Haven't read the thread but I'm watching that show 'Football's Greatest' on Sky Sports and they just did a segment on Beckham :97:

Can't believe that, they've never done a show on Jinky, Larsson, McStay, or any Celtic player other than Dalglish as far as I know.

John Terry-The McManus of Chelsea, sold big Luiz out in a few times last season.

Ashley Cole-not even the best left-back in England

Theo Wallcott- scored a few goals in an U-21 game for England because the German defence played him wrong, gave him to much room to use his pace. He then made the World Cup squad and has since shown time and time again what an average player he is.

Bafetembi Gomis- Striker for Lyon- 9 times out of 10 he couldn`t hit a barn door.

Carroll- Not because of the big transfer fee, but his contribution to game is minimal in the majority.

Anelka- Another who flatters to deceive, has a stinking attitude by all accounts and the number of transfers the guy has had is incredible.

That was a big part in his decision to retire but I get your point (being dropped for France I mean) :50:
