I highly doubt that the people out on the streets day in day out are laughing. They must have it incredibly hard. I'm almost positive that they keeps a pittance of what they beg and they vast bulk of it goes to some horrible * who organizes it all.

We don't know their story or how they ended up being used. I wouldn't be surprised if some sort of human trafficking was going on here.

You've been around this forum long enough to know a fishing hook when you see it, surely?

It's been going on for a long time I have respect for the big issue sellers as they could make a lot more money begging but don't do it. It's all over Europe you see this. In Paris they target tourists give them a rose and letter normally saying some sob story that they had all their family killed in some war or another then wait for you to give them money and get very angry if you give the flower back to them. During Ramadan they make a lot of money in London as they wear a hijab and pretend to be Muslims they wait after friday prayer outside the Mosque and the get very young kids to beg I have seen Muslims give them £50 pound notes. Like the Police have said they are very organised and from what I have heard they make a lot of money. When Romania joins the EU this will be a much larger problem unfortunately. It's a shame as real homeless people are now viewed with suspicion.

Maybe, but this businessman seems to be getting a pretty good deal out of it.
Said he even had a shopper buying them a gift voucher for shoes.
It win-win for him, take the money for the voucher, refuse to refund it.

Seriously? Have you ever stopped to think that the business in question may not have known that the member of the public was buying a voucher for this guy?

Also, I don't know any business that offers refunds on gift vouchers.

Well if they did know they wouldnt be very good businessmen if they informed a buying customer not to buy the product/voucher.
And if they didnt know it was espically not their problem.

I'd say there's definite concealed whys and wherefores when it comes to 'businessmen' complaining about this issue.

Aside from having some shoeless, stinking conman sitting outside his premises trying to con his or her customers out of money?

I can see where they're coming from. If I had such a character sitting outside my business I'd tell him to move along.

Yes - I have had homeless people sit outside my premises - I've only ever once felt the need to ask them to move down a bit and that was when I was arranging a queue outside.

Fortunately not all business owners have that attitude. The Body Shop and Paperchase do it right.

Conman? Great initiative in my opinion.

I don't see how this is much different from banks and insurance companies training their employees in tricks and techniques to psychologically manipulate their customers into buying additional cover they never asked for.

Apart from the companies do it on a massive scale and rake in billions in profit.

5 of them walk down from govanhill every morning into the city centre. Got no time for them(the eastern European ones) there was a women who used to beg outside my work and one day when i lived in govanhll she turned up in my street with a van on the day old furniture was picked up and her and her partner/hubby/pimp started picking up all the stuff people had put out to be picked up. Needless to say when she came near me she was told to * off before i called the police, took my phone out of my pocket and they bolted in there van...Leaches is all they are

There is an Eastern European who stands outside the Greggs in my town and she is spot on.

Always well presented and courteous and remembers you from the time before.

Then you go into Glasgow City Centre and you get all sorts of junkies hassling you, saying that they need bus fare to get home...

Sure it's only the immigrants though.

    That directed at me aye?

Why don't you answer me directly instead of hiding behind quoting a smiley?
